Guest guest
Dear Sri. Ganesh Kumar and others! Radhe Krishna! I do not know what was the background of the query. But I thought I will only answer to the point of "Phala-sruti", the narration of the fruits of chanting the Stotra or Mantra. Even Vedas offer Phalasruti for performing the rituals enumerated in the Karma-kanda. Quoting Bhagavatam Chapter 3, Verse 44 of The Skandha XI, where the Nine Yogiswaras give their sermon to King Videha, it says "PAROKSHA-VADO VEDOYAM BALANAM ANUSASANAM--KARMA-MOKSHAYA KARMANI VIDHATTHE HYAGADAM YADHA." (JUST LIKE THE ATTRACTIVE SPEECH OF PARENTS TO PERSUADE THEIR CHILDREN TO TAKE MEDICINE, THE VEDIC SENTENCES IMPLY AN INDIRECT PURPOSE, AND NOT THE HEAVENLY FACILITIES THEY SEEMINGLY OFFER. AS A MEDICINE IS GIVEN TO CURE A DISEASE, SO THE KARMAS (RITUALS) ARE ORDAINED IN THE VEDAS IN ORDER TO FREE A MAN FROM KARMA (WORLDLY SELFISH ACTIONS) AND NOT TO CONTINUE INDULGING IN THEM.) So also are the stotras like Vishnu-sahasranama, Nama-sankeertanas etc., in the Kali-yuga, which yield the same effects as performing penance in Krita yuga, sacrifices in Treta-yuga, Poojas and flowery offerings in Dwapara-yuga etc. The Phala-sruti enunciated after every stotra is just like offering a candy to the child for taking the medicine. But for the candy, the child may not take the medicine, and the disease may not get cured. Even so, people may not chant the stotras and worship God, but for the results enumerated there. But what is to be understood is that the very chanting of the Lord's names is curative of all ills and woes afflicting mankind. Once this basic philosophy is understood, there is no need of reading out the Phala-sruti. Those practising Nishkama-bhakti, devotion to te Lord without expectation of the fruits, i.e., devotion for devotion's sake, there is absolutely no need of reading the Phala-sruti. Regards K.V. Gopalakrishna. Ganesh Kumar wrote: THANK YO 4RND. YOU HAVE RELEIVED OF A GREAT AMBIGUITY. BUT STILL... I NEED SOME OF VIEWS ON THE FOLLOWING...
