Although everyone is constitutionally and eternally a servant of

Krishna, what is it that marks out a devotee from a non-devotee?

Although this article is in continuation of my previous article,I

have tried to raise another question at the end.

To answer this, let us examine some of the reasons which many people

would offer:-

1.Difference in dress:- A devotee is dressed simply while a non-

devotee may dress up with the latest fashions, quite garish and bold

outfits.

2.Eating: A devotee will eat clean pure and sattvic food, while a non-

devotee will eat meat fish and eggs lust like any other food without

considering its negative aspects.

3.Consumption of Intoxicants: A devotee will comsume substances such

as Prasadam and milk and dry fruits, while a non-devotee will consume

intoxicating substances such as drugs and alcohol without restraint.

4.Illicit relationships: A devotee will refrain from relationships

with the opposite sex, and also maintain regulated relationships with

spouse, while a non-devotee will indulge indiscriminately in illicit

relationships and also exercise no restraint in his legally

acceptable relationship with spouse.

5.Gambling and Speculation: A devotee will contribute his savings for

spiritual work, like donating to a Temple, or helping poor people in

need, while a non-devotee will use his wealth in gambling,

casinos, share speculation etc, without considering the fallout.

Considering the above pertinent differences between a devotee and a

non-devotee, what do we notice?

We notice that a devotee is always well behaved and considerate, a

devotee always considers the effect of his or her actions carefully before

performing those actions, while a non-devotee acts indiscriminately.

This difference marks out a devotee from a non-devotee. This is a

difference which can be seen not just in outwardly behaviour, but in

the psychic personality of the devotee also. The devotee has a

different type of mindset. It occurs only after having made sufficient

effort to change a wild unruly mind to a disciplined, well controlled

mind.

How has this difference been achieved by devotee? the answer

is :Chanting Harinaam! The devotee just does one thing different,

that is he chants Harinaam always and that causes all other

differences!

This is direct proof of Harinaam's efficacy. So be

glorious, be a devotee, chant Harinaam!
