Hare Krishna ! Dandavat Pranams to Sree Krishna and Vaishnavas ,

A house holder requires reasonable wealth to fulfil his responsibilities towards own family and to the needy devotees around him .

Maha-Lakshmi , the Goddess of Wealth is called "Chanchala Lakshmi" or "Restless Lakshmi". This is quite surprising since She is the eternal consort of Bhagavan Sree Krishna .

Then why is Lakshmi-Devi called "Chanchala Lakshmi" ?. Our wise Rishis knew it's reason . A person attains the grace of Maha-Lakshmi due to his meritorious "past karma" and it lasts till the accumulated merit expires . Goddess Lakshmi does not show favoritism. She gave Ravana and Hiranyakashipu tons of wealth because of their meritorious deeds in the past birth as servants of Narayana . But they lost everything and even life when they stood against Vishnu Bhagavan . Who ever becomes arrogant by wealth and forgets the divine grace bestowed on him by the Supreme couple ( Lakshmi and Krishna) eventually loses all his wealth .

Therefore, the name "Chanchala" or fickle natured is attributed to Lakshmi-devi for none of Her fault . She cannot be separated from Vishnu Bhagavan and whoever forgets Sreedhar (one who carries Lakshmi) , She leaves them immediately. Without knowing the actual reason of her sudden disappearance, people call Her "Chanchala Lakshmi".

Maha-Lashmi Resides where Hari-Nama Exists

Lakshmi-devi is extremely fond of hearing the glories of Her husband . She resides where Devotees chant "Hari-Nama" .

Srimad Narayaneeyam says in it's verse 2.4-5 :

" Oh Lakshmi's husband Sree Krishna ! Lakshmi-devi is so attached to You that She cannot remain long with any of Her devotees. Hence She has earned the epithet "Chapala" or Fickleminded one . So strong and steadfast is Her love for YOU . Oh Bhagavan ! Lakshmi-devi's firm love of You makes Her shower blessings on all Your Devotees who are ever praising Your qualities and worshipping You. Her fickleness is only with regard to those who have no love or respect for Krishna " .

Sree Krishna's devotee Sudama (Kuchela) was extremely poor, but he was always thinking of Bhagavan and Lakshmi came to him making him immensely rich . This proves that the easiest way to acquire the blessing of Goddess Lakshmi is to worship with untainted devotion, Her husband Sree Krishna . Lakshmidevi looks at every individual and blesses according to individual merit . She knows , what is the best for each individual to get closer to Bhagavan . In some cases She takes away all the wealth because She finds the abundance is destroying his devotion . In some other cases, Lakshmi showers riches and happiness because She sees that this enrichment helps the Devotee to spread Krishna-bhakti .In the case of Sudama , Lakshmi left him in poverty to make him closer to Krishna and when She saw that his Krishna-bhakti is selfless , She showered him with everything .

So let us pray Lakshmidevi to bless us to have selfless Krishna-bhakti . She knows what is best for us. Whenever we are lacking something, it is entirely due to our fault . And we should come closer to Krishna with more faith .

Whenever we feel we are blessed with abundance , we must spend part of that wealth to propagate Krishna-Bhakti and to serve Bhagavan's needy devotees .So Mahaalakshm i is "Achanchala" (without fickleness) and persuades us to have "Achanchala" Bhakthi in Bhagavan Sree Krishna !
