Guest guest
In all Indian Schools, you may not find a single text book referring to the appearance of Lord Chaitanya Mahaprabhu. As for the mention of the Bhakti movement, it is restricted to some Hindi text books of the higher classes (class X,XI,XII) in the form of some poems and songs. The great movement started by the Lord Chaitanya Mahaprabhu was not mentioned in any of the text books of any school in India, although it has achieved worldwide recognition. It was of course mentioned in our sacred texts, but the schools were never encouraged to teach from Gita or Srimad Bhagvatam, sadly. I only remember that the Sanskrit classes I attended had chapters from the Gita, and this was available only in the Central Schools (Kendriya Vidyalayas) and in none of the other schools. We have schools in India that promote Christian culture quite strongly(the Convent Schools) and we have schools run by Islamic Missions that educate about the Koran. Gita is nowhere to be found in the curriculum of any of our schools except the Kendriya Vidyalayas during the 1970s, I wonder if they continue even today though. If we ask our younger generation about Lord Krishna, or about Lord Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, I am not sure what answers we will get. Thanks to the advent of Srila Prabhupada, our generation was exposed to this great movement, and our lives have been blessed, and thus our children benefit from chanting Harinaam. Here's a wonderful statement:- " The science of devotional service is just like a great ocean, and it is not possible to show you all the length and breadth of the great ocean. But you can know about the nature of the ocean by just taking a drop of it; and you can thus taste it and understand what that ocean of devotional service is.
