Guest guest
Pranams to Bhagavan Krishna and His Bhaktas , Our Member-Devotee, Sasiji has raised this question about *Vishu* festival : “Why the Photo of Bhagavan Krishna is used for Vishu rituals ? Why not that of other Gods “? The attached Malayalam PDF file describes the legend of *Vishu* . Let me translate it to English . Legend of VISHU Asura King Narakasura was immensely powerful and arrogant . When his evil deeds became unbearable , Devotees came to Dwaraka and complained to Bhagavan Krishna. Together with Garuda and wife Sathyabhama , Bhagavan entered Narakasura’s capital *Prag-Jyothisha* . After surveilling the entire city atop Garuda , Bhagavan started the war . Satyabhama assisted her husband . They killed all the main Asura Commanders namely Mura, Tamra, Anthriksha , Sravana , Vasu , Nabhaswan and Aruna together and their armies . Finally , king Narakusara himself came to fight . It was a fierce war . In the end, Bhagavan Krishna killed Narakasura. This event coincided with the beginning of Spring season . From then , People started celebrating that day as Vishu . Another legend is associated with Ravana . He got annoyed with the heat of Sun-rays reaching his palace , and started harming Surya-deva . Only after the killing of Ravana by Sri Rama , Surya-deva could appear in the right place . Devotees started celebrating Vishu to express their happiness at the killing of Ravana . The cleaning of premises and burning of waste materials from collected from there symbolically represents the burning of Lanka . Legend of *Kani Konna* ( Golden Yellow Tree ) Kani Konna Flower is unavoidable for Vishu . These golden color flowers are immensely attractive . There is a legend behind the creation of these Flowers : Once there lived a Brahmin kid named Unni . Everyday, his mother used to tell him the beautiful stories of Bal-Krishna’s pastimes at Ambadi . After hearing these stories, Unni got a strong desire to see Bal-Krishna . Everyday he would go to the nearby Krishna-temple and request Krishna to come out . After hearing these calls daily , Bhagavan’s mind melted with compassion . One day , Sri Krishn appeared in front of Unni , in the form of Ambadi’s Bal-Krishna . Unni ran upto Bal-Krishna and embraced HIM tightly . This innocent love of Unni pleased Bal-Krishna immensely . Bhagavan untied His *Aranjanam* ( Golden Waste-Chain) and gifted it to Unni . When Bal-Krishna disappeared, Unni went back to his home with that Ornament . Next day , when the Poojari opened the Temple , he could not find the Moothy’s golden *Aranjanam* . The news about the theft of Bhagavan’s ornament spread everywhere . Meanwhile some people came to know that the lost Ornament is in Unni’s possession . Thinking that her son has stolen it , Unni’s mother scolded and beat him . Seizing the Aranjanam from the crying Unni, she threw it away . It fell atop a tree and became Golden Yellow Flowers . Thus manifested Kani Konna ( See attached Photo) . --------- Sri Krishna ( Maha-Vishnu) alone is , the God of Gods King Yudhishtira’s Questions and Sri Bhishma’s Answers in Srimad *Vishnu Sahasranamam* ( commentary by Sri Adi Shankaracharya) : Question .
