Guest guest
Hari Om! Dear Devotees, Today is the first day of Guruvayoor Utsavam, Utsavam flag has hoisted heralding the start of auspicious celebrations. Utsavam falls on the day of Pushya in the month of Kumbham and lasts for ten days as it ends after the 'Aarattu'. Utsavam is the restoration of divine Chaithanya. It is aimed at the purification and energizing of the powers of the deity. Utsavam is preceded by Brahmakalasam and it is the last of the long series of kalasam rituals. Utsavam days are very colorful with processions, illumination of temple and surroundings and modest fire-works (unlike most of the other Kerala temples, no crackers/explosives are used during Guruvayoor Utsavam) During these ten days, Guruvayoor is filled with a festive look, streets decorated in traditional and modern ways with festoons etc. Houses are freshly thatched and painted, every shrine and building is tastefully decorated with lights, plantain trunks, bunches of coconut and arecanuts. Two Gopurams and the bahyankana (outer- courtyard) are elaborately decorated with illuminations and eye- catching light displays. Deepasthambams and vilakku are also lightened. Arattu, the last day of Utsavm is on March 2nd this year. Om Namo Narayanaya: Sunil Menon Moderator www.guruvayoor.com
