Guest guest
HARE KRISHNA. It is a good beginning Vinod and the Gita dhyanam and Mahatmyam are well portrayed.I just want to muse over some thoughts though not directly related to the subject. Innumerable are the sciences that have come into being in the march of time.New branches of them are taking shape day after day.Mans knowledge in the sciences are rapidly increasing. But in the midst of this growing knowledge man is becoming vividly aware of another fact. The more he probes into the mystery of Nature, the more he is able to realise that the unexplored aspects of it happen to be numberless. What is already known is infinitesimal and what is yet to be known is evidently infinite.Taking this limitation human intellect there arises a question What is it,knowing which man need make no more search for knowledge? What is it,knowing which ,the secrets of Nature do all become revealed?.Bold and indomitable enquiries were made. The doors of Nature were persistently knocked at.Relentless searches were made within and without. The superhuman effort did not go in vain. The sages of the yore had met with enormous success in their profound enquiry. They came face to face with Truth. They initiated the Basis of the elusive and fleeting phenomenol world. The Substratum having been contacted all mysteries got themselves revealed and explained. This knowledge of the Substratum is known as Brahma Vidya.Theologians have their own terminologies applied to IT,Sivajnanam,Atmabodham,Paravidya, the Kingdom of Heaven,Nirvikalpa Samathy,Nirvana,Allah--these are some of the appellations applied to IT.The metaphysicians call It the Being in contrast with Nature, which becoz of its constant state of flux is called the Becoming. The purpose of the GITA is to impart the Brahma Vidya above everything else. Arjuna merely wanted to know whether he was to fight or beat a retreat.Instead of deciding the immediate issue, why did Sri Krishna digress into a dissertation on that profound subject? Yes,there was a supreme purpose behind it.Offering immediate solutions to immediate problems is one kind of enlightenment. But when ignorance is rooted out all get solved once for all. With the dawn of Brahma Vidya the mist of nescience vanishes.Sri Krishna chose to impart this Supreme Knowledge.Among the gifts bestowed on human beings,Brahma Vidya reigns supreme. When the recipient becomes worthy and competent Enlightenment inevitably comes from the Supreme. The first and formost of His mandates to Arjuna was - Ksudram hrydaya daurbalyam tyaktvottistha paramtapa-- " Rise,O hero, casting off your petty faint-heartedness " . More significant than this mandate was Madhusudhana's remaining firm as a rock under many a catastrophic circumstance. His action proved more effective than his words. He exhorted Arjuna to heroic action and he was himself an embodiment of superhuman achievements.Parthasarathy that He was,He put it to His disciple to pour forth love in abundance to all.And for His part He was Love incarnate. There are sufficient grounds to grant universalism to the Bhagavat Gita.In unmistakeable terms it upholds perfection as the goal of life.Self perfection is the acme of human aspirations.Sooner or later all have to pay homage to it and attain it.The Gita is a Clarion Call to this goal.To sublimate emotion to the highest pitch is the summum bonum of life. Yogindranam tvadangeshvadhika sumadhuram muktibhajam nivaso Bhaktanam kamavarshadyutarukisalayam naatha te paadamulam Nityam cittasthitam me pavanapurapate Krisna kaarunyasindho Hrtva nisseshatapan pratisatu paramanandasandohalakshmim ( O Lord! Thy feet are the most charming of all Thy limbs to the great Yogins. Thy form the(final) abode for emancipated ones. For the devotees they are like the celestial tree which showers on them their desired objects.O Krishna! O Lord of Guruvayur! O Ocean of Mercy! May those feet of Thine ever rest in my heart, destroy all my sufferings and bestow on me the treasure of supreme Bliss!) Thus ends Battathiri in his magnum opus Narayaneeyam. May the ever Merciful Lord of Guruvayur bestow His benign Blessings on all. Hare Krishna. agraman " PS, Vinod K (GE Energy) " <vinod.ps wrote: !! Sri Rama Jayam !! GITA Mahatmyam ------- 1) Krishna as Jagadguru - " Shravanam kirtanam vishno smaranam paada sevanam archanam vandanam dasyam sakhyam atma nivedanam " In Srimad-Bhagavatam, the Sri Prahlada, a great spiritual authority, says, " Hearing and chanting about the transcendental holy name, form, qualities, paraphernalia, and pastimes of Lord Vishnu [Krishna/Narayana/Rama..], remembering them, serving the lotus feet of the Lord, offering the Lord respectful worship . . . , offering prayers to the Lord, becoming His servant, considering the Lord one's best friend, and surrendering everything unto Him (in other words, serving Him with the body, mind, and words)-these nine processes (or nine topmost Yogas) are accepted as pure devotional service. One who has dedicated his/her life to the service of Krishna through these nine methods should be understood to be the most learned person, for he has acquired complete knowledge. " GITA, in a nutshell, reveals this subtle philosophy of Krishna science that the supreme Lord sings to the mankind. Trying to put the shlokas & their meaning of Gita Mahatmya, which will unfold the very basic question of the need to read, hear & understand Gita. ----------- " Gita shastram idam punyam yah pateth prayatah puman vishnoh padam avapnoti bhaya-shokadi varjitah " (Gita-mahatmya 1) (1) - He who studies this Gita scripture with humility is freed from fear and misery and attains the feet of Lord Vishnu. " Gita adhyaana-shilasya pranayama-paraasya cha naiva santi he paapani purva janme kritani cha " (Gita-mahatmya 2) (2) - That person who is in the habit of reading the Gita and who is also devoted to practising pranayama (breathing exercises) is not touched by sins, even those done in the previous birth. " Mala nirmochanam pumsam jala snanam dine dine sakrid gitambhaasi snanam samsara mala nashanam " (Gita-mahatmya 3) (3) - Human beings must bath in water every day to get rid of the dirt (of the body), but bathing in the water of the Gita once is enough to get rid of the dirt of this samsara (cycle of birth and death). " Gita sugita kartavya kim anyaih shastra vistaraih ya svyam padama nabhaayasa mukha padmad vinih srita " (Gita-mahatmya 4) (4) - This Gita which has come out of the lotus-like face of the Lord (He who has the lotus in His navel) and which is so melodious, should be studied. There is no need to study any other scriptures in detail. " Bharat amrita sarvasam vishnor vaktrad vini sritam gita gangodakam pitva punar janma na vidyate " (Gita-mahatmya 5) (5) - After drinking the water of the Gita which is the nectar of the entire Bharata (the epic Mahabharata) and which has come out of the mouth of Vishnu, there is no more birth (in this world). " Sarvopanishado gavo dogdha gopala nandanah partho vatsah sudhir bhokta dugdham gita amritam mahat " (Gita-mahatmya 6) (6) - All the Upanishads are the cows, the one who milks the cows is Krishna, Arjuna (Partha) is the calf. Men of purified intellect are the enjoyers; the milk is the great nectar of the Gita. The only scripture is the song of the son of Devaki. The only deity is the son of Devaki. The only mantra is His Names. The only action is the service of That Deity. " Ekam sastram devaki-putra-gitam eko devo devaki-putra eva eko mantras tasya namani yani karmapy ekam tasya devasya seva " (Gita-mahatmya 7) (7) ekam sastram devaki-putra-gitam: let there be one scripture only, one common scripture, for the whole world-Bhagavad-gita. And Eko devo devaki-putra eva: let there be one God only for the whole world - Sri Krishna. Eko mantras tasya namani: And one hymn, one mantra, one prayer only-the chanting of His name: [Hare Krsna, Hare Krsna, Krsna Krsna, Hare Hare Hare Rama, Hare Rama, Rama Rama, Hare Hare. ] Karmapy ekam tasya devasya seva: And let there be one work only-the service of the Supreme Personality of Godhead. Lord Shiva in Gita Mahatmya, states that " Only one God - Krishna, the son of Devaki " (Verse 7). ------------------------- (....To be continued .....) ------------------------- Sarvatra Govinda naama Sankirtanam !! .............Govinda !!................Govinda !!
