Let me share something more with you. If you know, that our team has started with GITA Yajna already & that we are completed with "Gita Dhyanam" & now "Gita mahatmyam" is on going. The current topic of discussion under GITA Mahatmyam is "Krishna as Jagadguru". It will be helpful to you & to rest of the team (Unaware devotees in particular) to track the flow of discussions having occured in the near past. To make it simplified, I will consolidate all the discussions occured till now in a specific format as a doc file & will circulate it to the group & individual members shortly. This will be a copyright text for our group. The messages & posts added in the course of time will be reflected under specific headings & page numbers with the name of the devotee as the respective author. Mr Raju, let me understand from your effort that you can add on all valuable contribution in this respect in the nearest future. Guest guest
Hari Aum, The attempt is really commendable. As I mentioned earlier Sanskrit language is extremely powerful and one will have to work really really hard in translating with the right words. My suggestion is to refer the subject matter extensively with Masters of both the Sanskrit and Malayalam alongwith the numerous Gita translation/explanations. e.g The word 'yajna' is used frequently in the 'Gita'. Swami Chinmayanda's translation is 'spirit of co-operation'. Likewise 'Mahabaho'. One cannot just translate it as 'long armed one'. There are words impregnated with loaded meanings. I am sure it is a challenging and daunting task to take up. You must be enjoying it thoroughly too. We welcome your suggestion to keep posting 5 slokas everyday.Consistency will definetly yield the desired results with the Grace of Guruvayoorappan. Guest guest
- Hari Aum, Dear Shri Balagopal, Thanks for ur mail and suggestions laid down by u on my efforts to translate Gita slokas. I did stop posting the same with the second part (slokas 6-10) on the direction from some other members to do it during the time of discussions on gita slokas that will take place in the near future. I took the task only after studying various texts that available in the past and present like of Sankara's commentary and its various translations (PS Ananthanarayana Sastri - Narayana Bhattatiri (not Melputtur) - and others). While writing it in English there will be lot of confusion how to catch up with the pronunciation of Sanskrit words. This will happen to many as there seems to be no criteria laid down by any authorities. You may be aware that late Chakravorty Rajagopalachari (Rajaji) has translated entire Vyasa Mahabharata which serially appeared in Himmat weekly during the 60s and 70s. Later it has been published as book by Bhartiya Vidya Bhavan, Mumbai. I came across many variations in this text also, even though it has done by a great scholar-stateman.
