!! Sri Rama Jayam !!

Dear Sri Balagopal,

Let me answer your question one by one.

The ten incarnations goes like this - Matsya, Kurma, Varaha, Narasimha, Vamana, Parashu Rama, Sri Rama, Sri Krishna, Buddha & Kalki.

But, if you have noticed my earlier mail on Dashavtara Stotra by Sri Jayadeva, you will discover that after Sri Rama comes Balarama & then Buddha, finally ending up with Kalki.

This will answer your question "Are Budhdha and Balarama considered?"

Strikingly, Krishna is not mentioned here as the incarnation of Narayana becoz Jayadeva is addressing directly all his prayers to Krishna (with Radha) as the absolute one & as basis of all other incarnations. Adding to it, in the cycle of Chaturyugas, Krishna does not incarnate in every Dwaparam. It may appear non-acceptable to most of you. But this is what Bhagavattam also unfolds. It was only in the recent Dwaparam (28th) wherein Krishna appeared in his true form in Mathura/Gokulam/Vrindavanam/Dwarika. Otherwise, it's Balarama alone who is coming in every cycle. And, accordingly there are 28 vyasas born or incarnated till now. The latest Vyasa is addressed as "Krishna Dwaiypayana". I am only able to write this, becoz, I have come across this fact in most of the Television satsang's mainly by Sri Krupalu ji Maharaj, Sri A C Bhakti Vedanta Prabhupad, Sri Ramesh bhai Oza etc. quite a number of times.

Finally, in all the 18 puranas composed by Sri Vyasas [Vyasa - Means expander(s) of Vedas & I hope each Vyasa modifies Veda/shastra teachings in each chaturyuga as per the need of Yuga Dharma], Bhagavatham stands top as the authority of Lord himself.

Please let me know, if you want to have more clarification.

Will be happy to serve you.

Thanks.

Hare Krishna..

Hare Rama....

Dear Balagopal,

In this Universe which is cotrolled by certain Laws of Nature in my view it makes no difference whether the Supreme Being has taken 9,10 or 15 avatars. After all an avatar is a manifestation of the Great Spirit which is omniscient and omnipotent which manifests Itself in some form to achieve some purpose according to the demand of time in which such manifestation takes place. The essential parameter is time which is uncertain and changeable. So what people perceived thousands of years ago need not be considered by the present day world as the whole concept of ideas hv undergone several changes due to efflex of time. For example in our theory earth rotates round the sun in 365 days which we say a year. Then what abt the moon which rotates the earth and what is its year.So for earth 365 days is an year whereas for moon it is only 27 days. What we see the sun in the morning will hv a different appearance in the noon and evening. So all are subject to time which is always

changeable.

In that way the Ultimate Reality also must hv taken several avatars over the thousands of years which might have been perceived by the people living at that time and the same may not be known to us as there are no authentic information about them.So we still harp on the ten avatar principle which may or may not be correct. In each avatar also the appearance, disposition, nature of the avatar were different.Matsya,Koorma,Varaha,Narasimha avatars were taken with some avowed purpose and we don't give much importance to them as the nature of those avatars were such that is beyond our comprehensive powers. But at that point of time such avatar might hv some purpose. So we confine ourselves to the avatars of Rama and Krishna. In fact both Krishna and Balarama hv no difference except to the fact we get more information of Krishna avatar than that of other avatars as the Lord as Krishna did lot of amazing feats and delivered the Great Gita.Even He Himself declared that whenever there is

disorder and chaos in the world to establish dharma I come again and again.During the last 5000 years much chaos and disorders have visited the earth and naturally many avatars of the Supreme Being must hv come but the people lived during those periods could hv been benefitted and we cannot locate those avatars as there are no records.

What we call an avatar is nothing but the manifestation of the Supreme to put the worldly disorder eradicated and infuse harmony and peace.Such being the case I feel that God has manifested only in 10 avatars is unsustainable. Some place Balarama and some omit him and insert Buddha,so too some insert Parasurama and some omit.So there is no authenticity in containing the Lord to a mere 10 avatars in the everso many years that have gone by and waiting for Kalki avatar to come as the tenth avatar.Kalki avatar manifestation is an avatar riding on a horse and try to establish dharma. Can we imagine such a possibility in the present day jet world? So giving much importance to the 10 avatars in my view is not in consonance with the principle of Nature and time.

As far as we know Rama avatar has shown the path a person shuld adopt in following dharma like obedience to parents, elders, living a life of virtue etc. From Krishna we learn how a person shuld try to reach the Divinity which is inherent in him and do the duty without expecting any rewards by putting all the burdens on the Cosmic Reality as mankind has no other option.Scientists say that the Universe is many thousand light years of width and there may be an end to that after. Then after that where the Universe goes? What abt the beginning? So it is said that all are nothing but maya and the projection of the Supreme Being inherent in everybody.Of course it is very very difficult to comprehend such statements.Hence it is advised by the sages that the Supreme Being cant be understood by theories and explanations but only thru experience. There is a saying those who hv seen Godhead never spoke abt the experiences they hv undergone and those who hv not seen only make comments that such

and such thing is the Reality. In Tamil there is a saying KANDAVAR VINDILAR,VINDAVAR KANDILAR.The meaning is the same as given in the last sentence. So devotees of Krishna say that He is the Parabrahman. So the case with devotees of Siva who put Siva the Supreme. All these things stem from the mind and giving much importance will only confuse the mind.So let us follow what path is suitable to our interest and take our own Ishta Devata and try to find out the same in all other deities. In Hindu pantheism there are deities galore and it is well nigh impossible to adopt a deity of ones choice as we hv been trained from the childhood like that.Hence when we go to a Siva temple we dont say Krishna and vice versa. When we go to Sabarimala we call Dharma Sastha mainlyand not other deities names.Only when a mind is concentrated in a form with all attention and consider that form as existing in all other forms some kind of realisation is possible in this or coming births.

Once a person who was worshipping many Gods in his pooja.Sri Rmakrishna wanted to teach him a lesson for his good.So when the person came to Sri Ramakrishna he saw that Ramakrishna was digging several pits in the yard and when the interested devotee asked Bhagawan Ramakrishna what he was doing Ramkrishna replied that he wanted to make a well and hence digging several pits. The devotee laughed and told Ramakrishna for digging a well you shuld hv digged in a place instead of several places. Then Sri Ramkrishna replied if you can worship several deities to find out God instead of concentrating on One of your choice why can't I dog several pits for a well. The devotee understood what Sri Ramakrishna wanted to convey to him and acted accordingly. So instead of harping on the avatars of God not only Krishna even Siva had taken so many avatars and euologised by Saivites. The essence of all these shuld be to worship an object which need not necessarily be a deity it can be

anything even Jyothy,Om or any such things and concentrating ,meditating and finding all the Gods of Hindu mythology in that particular form One can reach Great heights instead of clinging on to several deities.Of course it cant be done easily bcoz of our training from childhood but with will and determination the same can be achieved.Only thing is the chosen object of worship shuld not be changed but shuld be stick on for ever. This is the correct path for perfection in Godliness. My intention is not to dispute the concept of Dasavatars which hv been in vogue for a long time but to shed some thoughts on the principle.
