How to overcome suffering.

By nature nobody wants to hv suffering in anyway.Everybody longs for something that will make his/her worldly life peaceful without sufferings and wants to hv happiness in all aspects. Many however say 'there is too much of unhappiness,I want peace'.It is needless to say that in the present day world as we see it,such a thought is useless to hope for any kind of mitigation.Lord Krishna says in Gita 'the world is transitory and full of sorrows, having come here worship Me'.It may reasonably asked if He is worshpped will the transitory world becomes everlasting or the sorrowful world becomes blissful? The Lord has not stated that clearly. He only describes the world in two words-transitory and sorrowful. But He said 'having come here worship Me'.Why?Becoz by worshipping the God the world no more remains fleeting and gloomy.God is of the nature of bliss. He is eternal and by contemplating on Him man also becomes blissful and immortal. This statement however is true only partly.A man

is changed by contemplating on Him.It is impossible that a man in his present state will become immortal. The form of the world will not change. It will surely remain fleeting. And will this sorrowful world become joyful?Certainly not according to our imagination.Still we do imagine. We can't help it.Nobody wants sorrow and to be happy and to live for ever. Some people live long. But they also die someday. Moreover living long does not mean they live in happiness and without sorrows rather many hv sufferings and no happiness. So nobody in this world lives for ever.Of course this is not a new theory as everybody knows this.

In the Puranas and legends we get the names of people who are 'immortals'.But where are they now?We don't find them at all except in statues and sculptures. If they are extant, they shuld be visible to us.Even otherwise their existence or non existence is the same to us.There is none in this world who is immortal. Many may say'we are wordly people,is it possible to think always the fleeting nature of this world?'.Whether it is possible or not the truth has to be accepted. In Mahabharata we read Yudhishtra telling Yama Dharma to a question 'even after seeing men dying everyday others think we shall never die. What may be more astonishing than this'.

Whe we build a house we do it in such a way that it may last for atleast a hundred years for example. We try to amass money to last for the next one or two generations thereby trying to perpetuate our existence. Why?We have a strong desire to live happily and in comfort.Sometimes we go to sanyasins when our mind get disturbed for seeking solace and peace and even thinking of renunciation.A wise sanyasi wll answer that there is no peace in renunciation. Why shuld we lack peace?Becoz of desires. We get perturbed and alarmed if we are advised you lack peace becoz of yr desires and give up the desires then you will hv peace and happiness.'What a proposition, we think. We don't want peace by giving up our worldly desires. What we want is we shall enjoy all pleasures of the world and at the same time we shall also hv peace.Something like we want the cake and eat it too. This is not possible. It is like wanting to be cool by pouring fire on the body on a hot day.We are trying to make

possible what is impossible. This is becoz we try to search something outside an object that is verily within us.Sri Ramakrshna advises 'with one hand catch hold of the Lord and with the other perform wordly duties without attachment. In such a case the world will not appear to be so much tormenting'.Then this world will become His world.

One shuld always think though the same is impossible, that nothing of this world belong to us but to Him as we hv no idea from where we came and to where we go and we are only the trustees of things that actually belong to Him.Then our outlook will undergo remarkable changes. One will see Him in good and bad,in weal and woe,in everything. The world of course will not change but one's vision will surely change and there won't be any unhappiness and suffering. One's condition will become like that of Chaitanyadeva 'wherever I look I see Krishna only'.If by His grace we can comprehend what the truth is,what religion tries to teach us,what examples great men hv presented before us and if we practice sadhana after moulding ourselves in that ideal then only shall we succeed and our so called sufferings will vanish. There is no other way.
