Security beefed up at Guruvayur

Thursday July 7 2005 12:08 IST

GURUVAYUR: The police have beefed up security at the Sree Krishna

Temple here from Tuesday night in the wake of the terrorist attack on

Ayodhya Temple.

Armed men are guarding the temple round the clock and metal detectors

are also being used at all entry gates for checking devotees entering

the temple.

Security has been tightened on account of the alert sounded, but

there is no reason to panic, DIG Revatha Chandrasekhar told this

website's newspaper. Devotees will not have to face any hardship, the

DIG added.

For security reasons, bags, umbrella, electronic equipment, mobile

phones etc have been strictly restricted inside the temple, said

Devaswom administrator K.Anil Kumar.

Devaswom chairman K.V.Nambiar said that the proposal for permanent hi-

tech security arrangements for the temple by the police department,

pending with the managing committee, will be implemented at the

earliest
