Guest guest
Once I read somewhere that God helps to bring like minded people together. Now I understood how correct it is. It is only the mercy of Guruvayoorappan, which brought all of us under one umbrella through this group. Your piece of writings are really appreciatable. Thanks for the same and may Guruvayoorappan shower his mercy on you to write more and more like this and help people like me to read and follow the path of godliness Thanks and regards Indu Canada GANAPATHY RAMAN <agraman62 wrote: As the spiritual aspirant knows that meditation forms one of the important things in the path of upliftment. But he always faces many obstacles in the way.Unfavourable environments, uncongenial atmosphere and other obstacles do not necessarily lead to defeat ones's efforts.Rather, they can serve as trials and aids in the development of such strong powers as discrimination, empathy will and endurance. The struggle thru different situations brings rapid progress. On the other hand undesirable company is highly disastrous for such contacts fills the mind with useless ideas. To avoid being pulled into negativity, the meditator shuld protect himself carefully from any distracting influences.People who lie and steal,or are greedy or indulge in backbiting and pass the time with idle gossiping hv no place in the life of a spiritual person. Guest guest
Viswanath Kindly understand that Meditation is not to earn money or win lottery:) Its to have a mind set to sacrifice those. Once you reach some stage in meditation, you feel all material pleasures as not worthy. The reason is the pleasure you get from meditation is just too much that you dont even think about pleasures which are (1/crore)th of it. The rishis in India are called "ananda"s just because of this. So please leave money aside...ofcourse use it for day to day life and sit and meditate and enjoy your "SELF". Congrats on your winning lottery. But, please remember that its not because you chanted Gayatri. If that was the case, everyone can win lottery. It may be because you have done some good deeds in the past and is getting repayed. According to Karma principle, no one gets anything for "free". Good or bad, its the result of your own actions. Guest guest
Dear Viswanath, I don't know how long you hv been a Member of this group. My stint in the Group is only of six months or so but I could grasp the purpose for which this Group has been created and post the mails that are essentially spiritual related and not money oriented.I hv not come across any mails during the last months with such claims that whether Meditation,Bhakthy,Prayers will make one a Bill Gate and other billionaires of this world.I also am ignorant whether these people you hv in mind are doing meditation etc as yourself also don't know.So long as we don't know abt this aspect of theirs we are in the same boat as for as the monied people are concerned.I also don't know what is yr interest in spiritualism and whether you are doig anything of that sort. From the mail I can gauge yr mind set up that is loving money more than anything and if possible try to become a Bill Gate or a billionaire in your own way.Nobody will stop that if you are destined. In another mail you hv said you hv been reciting Gayatry for the past 58 years and won a lottery.Very gud. When you say you hv been saying Gayatry for 58 years yr age must be more than 65 at least.Do you think you can become another Bill Gate or a billionaire ( unless you are on a winning spree of lotteries) at this ripe age? Evidently you hv chosen to write the mails in the sense of veiled sarcasm and that is also part of life. What you hv stated everybody knows and if the mental set up of all are like that of yours then this forum would not hv come into existence and many people would hv discussed only abt money and not abt spirit. However I don't v complaints against you but only feeling sorry for yr state of affairs. It is said one can take a horse to the river but twenty can't make it to drink water.Anyway I hv not written this to wound yr feelings but the way you hv chosen to write I am unable to digest. That is all.God Bless. Guest guest
Dear Friend, Indeed it is a great post. I don't want to prasie more. I know that extensive praising harms us much. " The result of bad habits lessen the spiritual power, not the least of which is useless and excessive talking.Diarrhea of the tongue wastes much energy that could be utilised for personal development.Too much talking makes a person restless and unfit for the practice of meditation. " I like the above quotes. Infact I have that bad habit. I recently started my spiritual journey 6 months back. Still I have some doubts about the way I do the meditation. I have some doubts about being silent for 2 hours. Is it just keeping mouth shut or also trying to shut our mind also. Is there any problem If I personally send a mail to u. Thank u very much for ur nice suggestions. Guest guest
Dear Kumar, I hv gone thru yr mail.Silence for two hours does not mean that you shuld not do any activity. Those two hours you can spend sitting comfortably thinking abt God or something connected with spiritualism or introspection and not to speak as much of our energy wll be wasted by too much speeches. So if you choose you can keep yrself away from any disturbances and spend the time in loneliness thinking abt Godliness and not abt mundane activities.Initially your mnd won't allow and will jump on many things like a monkey. But keep a goal of yr choice in spiritual matters and the restless mind after some time may be weeks or even months all depend upon yr will power and determination will gradually come under yr control.Such a thing happens to anybody in the initial stages of spiritual journey and there is nothing to worry or lose hope as the aspirant is entering a new field and so will find some difficulties initially. But when the mind jumps to some other matter other than the one on which you think allow it to move for some time and gradually bring the same back to yr original thought.By practice you will be able to achieve the goal which will be a surprise for you too.So give some time to put the restless mind to come under control. It is always better to spend the time in some place where there is serene atmosphere like sea shore, temple and other holy places so that the mind won't wander unnecessarily and during those two hours just forget and ignore all yr other wordly things and try to think abt matters that are spiritual.Try and try and you are bound to succeed in course of time.Reg. your other suggestion there is no objection on my part.Try for a month and see the improvement. What is equired is will and sincerity and determination which are essential aspects in spirituality also like any other activity as in the terrestrial sphere. You must remember you can shut yr mouth wihout talking for any number of hours but not the mind even for a few minutes. So while not talking divert the attention of your mind to matters that are Godly.as controlling the mind is the key factor for success.Best of luck.. Guest guest
Dear Group members, Please permit me to thank Sri Ganapathy Raman for his objective way of explaining things. Our group is really fortunate to have Sri Raman as a member. For novices like us, he simplifies spiritual concepts and gives practical ways for pursuing spiritual upliftment. My sincere thanks to the moderator and Sri Raman for giving this opportunity to learn and practice the path of upliftment. Humbly, anantGANAPATHY RAMAN <agraman62 wrote: As the spiritual aspirant knows that meditation forms one of the important things in the path of upliftment. The healthiest approach is strictly avoid them. The term undesirable company includes more than just people.,anything that gives rise to negative thoughts or vibrations come under this category. The mind shuld not be distracted by unsavoury songs, reading books that hv a negative impact,tv programs centering on violence and sensuality all lead the mind astray and fill it with desires it wold not normally have. They distract the mind outwards rather than focus inward. They create an impression that this world is a solid reality and obscure the Supreme Truth which underlies all forms and names. The world is full of avarice,hypocrisy,flattery,untruth,double-dealing and selfishness and those who profess to be friends sometimes become the gretaest enemies.Of course many don't believe this. Most would llike to feel that their relationships are based on selflesslove, but in fact many are based on the fear of being alone and the desire for diversion. One shuld cut off connections that ae not beneficial and trust only the Inner Voice that dwell's in one's heart.Association of those whose own aspirations for perfection is definitely uplifting and encouraging. The result of bad habits lessen the spiritual power, not the least of which is useless and excessive talking.Diarrhea of the tongue wastes much energy that could be utilised for personal development.Too much talking makes a person restless and unfit for the practice of meditation. The wise speak only few words, and that too only when necessary, for by their very economy they will carry the most force. To help calm, center, and discipline the mind, Mouna, silence can be obeserved for abt two hours daily in addition to the time spent on meditation. In order to be of the most practical value, silence is best practiced at those time when there is the most opportunity to talk. However it can best be said than practiced in the present day wordly activities which cover the most part of the days. However an attempt can be made to do the same whenever opportunity arises. People of intellectual nature are often prone to unnecessary discussions and controversies.A person who is unable to remain quiet easily becomes involved in heated debates, too many of which lead to enmity, hostility, and energy drain. When intellectual reasoning, which is normally concerned only with investigation of the physical plane,is used for metaphysical enquiry,it can lead the spiritual aspirant to the threshold of intuition.Past this point it is of no use for transcendental matters are beyond the reach of reason. One must give up arguing, become silent and look within.Fault finding is,likewise a most detrimental habit. The mind of the person who is interested in others affairs unnecessarily is always outgoing and out of control. No one can be introspective when the mind is engaged in activity of this sort.Diligent application to spiritual practice allows no time for managing the affairs of ohers. One must forget the shortcomings of other people and work to improve oneself first.Life is precious and short. No one knows when it will be taken away either naturally or by calamities. So every minute must be used for such higher purposes than gossiping and judging ohers. Self-justification is another behavioral weakness to be overcome along with its characteristics- self assertion, obstinacy, dissimulation etcOnce these weaknesses get established in the framework of the personality it is very difficult to eliminate them, for the ego never admits to its own faults. One lie covers another in an endless succession of vain attempts at self justification.Improvements however comes quickly and rapidly only when one learns to admit his faults, mistakes and weaknesses.Petty mindedness is closely associated with back-biting and trying to pull down other people. All are caused by jealousy and ignorance. They can easily be combated and eradicated by always rejoicing in the welfare of others. So meditation involves far more than sitting with eyes closed in concentration. It demands rigorous introspection and an overhauling of one's personality, life patterns and values. Behaviour correction and the uprooting of weaknesses are relatively easy adjustments to make. The more serious obstacles to meditation and spirtual practice, which lie deep within, are the emotional imbalances and personality defects that nurture outward bad habits. When one succeeds to arrest them the path will become smooth for concentated meditation which is absolutely necessary for spiritual uplift.
