Guest guest
Triputhari fest to be celebrated on Thursday Thursday August 11 2005 13:22 IST GURUVAYUR: `Triputhari' festival will be celebrated at the Sree Krishna temple in Guruvayur on Thursday. The festival will begin with `ariyalakkal' (measuring of rice) by the temple Pathukaran from Vadekkepattu Wariam. Thousands will throng the temple for offering `puthari payasam' and `appam' to the Lord. The unique `nivedyam', comprising rice made from fresh paddy, `uppumanga' (a variety of mango pickle) and `pathilakkari' (pot- herb made of ten varieties of leaves) are offered to the deity during `uchapooja'. Traditionally, `Kazhakom' family member Puthiyedathu Narayanikutty Sharasyar brings the `uppumanga' for the `nivedyam'. The best tender mangoes picked from the family compound will be preserved in salt water in a China pot for nearly six months from the month of Kumbham
