Shobha Yatras, cultural meets and special bhajans were the highlights of the Sri Krishna Jayanthi celebrations across Kerala on Friday.

With lots of little Krishnas and Radhas, Kochi city and its outskirts resembled Mathura of the epic. Special programmes and Shobha Yatras were organised by temples and organisations in connection with the Sree Krishna Jayanthi festival. Shobha Yatras and cultural meets were held at various parts of the city.

While Justice Thottathil Radhakrishnan inaugurated the Shobha Yatra that began at the Ernakulam Town Hall, Justice D Sreedevi inaugurated the one from TD temple and Justice Radhakrishna Menon at Ravipuram temple.

Hundreds of devotees participated in the yatras and other cultural programmes. Assistant Police Commissioner PH Ashraff inaugurated the yatra at Ayyappan Kavu temple. All the rallies met at Jose Junction to form a Maha Shobha Yatra which progressed through DH Road and concluded at the Mahadeva temple.

The city turned into a 'sea of yellow' with hundreds of children dressed up as Krishnas and Radhas. Floats depicting the life of Krishna, bhajans and kavadis were the highlights of the rallies.

KS Radhakrishnan, vice-chancellor of Kalady Sree Sankaracharya Sanskrit University, inaugurated the Sree Krishna Jayanthi celebrations at Chittoor Sree Krishna temple. Cultural meet, uriyadi and Shobha Yatra were also organised in connection with the celebrations.

Shobha Yatras were also organised at various temples in Palluruthy, Tripunithura, Maradu and Vypeen. The various Sree Krishna temples of the city performed special pujas in connection with the Janmashtami celebrations. In Ravipuram Sree Keishna temple, Paramara temple, Ayappan Kavu temple, Chittoor Sree Krishna temple, Kaloor Cheratrikovil temple and in Thammanam Ananthapuri Sree Krishna temple, special pujas were held in connection with Janmashtami.

In Thiruvananthapuram, thousands of children participated in the Sree Krishna Shobha Yatra, organised by Balagokulam. Several floats depicting episodes of Bhagavat Gita were enacted in the procession.

Procession started from more than various ten centres in the city and ended at Padmanabha Swamy temple.
