Guruvayur celebrates the birth of lord Krishna

Saturday August 27 2005 00:00 IST

GURUVAYUR: Thousands of devotees thronged the Sree Krishna temple in

Guruvayur on Friday on the occasion of Ashtamirohini.

Devotees queued up for darshan and pirannal sadya since early

morning. The special arrangement made for having darshan directly

from East Gopuram to Nalambalam proved convenient.

Since the queue for pirannal sadya was at Putheri Bunglow on the

northern side of the temple pond, crowd management at East Gopuram

was easy.

More than 30,000 devotees took part in the pirannal sadya at the

oottupura. The special kazhcha seveli accompanied by panchavadyam,

melam and nagaswaram was performed inside the temple.

Gajaratnam Guruvayur Padmanabhan carried the swarnakolam for

ezhunnallippu. The Ashtamirohini celebration committee, led by the

Nair Samajam, held the annual procession and uriyadi.

The children dressed as Unnikannan led the procession accompanied by

the special ‘Jeevatha’ ezhunnallippu, melam, panchavadyam and

caparisoned elephants. The procession enthralled thousands who had

gathered on the roadsides.

The uriyadi procession concluded at East Gopuram in the afternoon. A

special procession was held in the evening.

Hundreds of tiny tots dressed as Krishna, Radha, gopikas, gopalakas

and Kuchela took part in the Maha Shobha Yatra organised by

Balagokulam.

The yatra encircled the temple town and concluded at Narayanalayam.

Ministers K C Venugopal, K K Ramachandran Master, Babu Divakaran,

Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan, Justice K S Radhakrishnan, Justice R

Bhaskaran, IG of police M N Krishna Moorthy, District Collector

Premachandra Kurup, Superintendent of Police T Chandran also sought

darshan at the temple.

Devaswom staff, police, KELSO security, NCC cadets and teachers from

devaswom schools guided the heavy crowd without causing any

inconvenience to the devotees.
