Guest guest Posted September 1, 2005 Report Share Posted September 1, 2005 `Uthrada kazhchakkula samarpanam' on Sept 14 Thursday September 1 2005 11:02 IST GURUVAYUR: The Sree Krishna temple in Guruvayur is all set to celebrate Uthradam and Thirvonam. The `Uthrada kazhchakkula samarpanam' will be held on September 14. After the morning seeveli, melsanti Munnoolam Hari Namboothiri will place the first `kazhchakkula' in front of the golden flagmast of the temple. Thousands of devotees throng the temple for `kazhchakkula samarpanam' usually. Selected `kazhchakkulas' will be used for preparing `pazhapradhaman' for Thiruvona sadya at the temple. The elephants of the temple will be also fed these bananas. The balance will be auctioned in public on the same day. Thiruvonam is also observed at the temple as Vamana Avathara Dinam. Legend has it that Lord Mahavishnu incarnated himself as Vamana, the son of Atheethi and Kashyapa, to oust King Mahabali on this day. Special onasadya will be served to thousands of devotees who throng the temple on this day. Almost all the hotels in Guruvayur will be fully booked on these days.
