Spiritual and not secular India.

The dictionary defines secular as worldly not sacred,sceptical to religious truths etc.The meaning of secular does not fit into the main characteristic of India.Our country is basically a sacred one and spirituality is the essence of its culture which is ancient and yet ever fresh.Yoga which is another name for spirituality is a unique gift of India to the entire world.Yoga is not related to some parts of physical postures but to a state of ascension of individual spirit to join the Universal spirit.On the large canvas of its spirituality India carried four religions of the world Hinduism,Buddhism,Jainism,Sikhism which originated from here.Two other major religions of the world Christinanity and Islam are also well established.Zorastrianism and some other faiths have also found their way in our country.This makes India a pluralistic country having multireligious,multilingual,multiregional.Due to this conglomeration of many faiths if they are not properly educated people

can tend to get divided into various groups of religions and languages.Fortunately though such trend exists the country has been able to maintain its unity in diversity.Religion is a binding force if understood properly and correctly.But unfortunately the word secular used in our country conveys more of neglect of religion rather than showing equal respect towards all religions and faiths due to the whims and fancies of the ruling powers found in our country for their benefits.People may differ in their religious perceptions but in the domain of spirituality there can never be any difference.One rises to a spiritual state by practicing virtues taught in all religions.Diversity found in India can lead to an enlightened unity with a spiritual outlook.

 

Centuries ago it was discovered in our country that man is innately divine.The innate divinity of man which enables him to perceive oneness of all existence attaching prime importance to humanism which develop in us a feeling to work for the welfare of all and having continuous God consciousness.Today we have no official body of inter faith organisations like the Parliament of Religions,Temple of Understanding and Assembly of Global Religions which exist in the West.Such a body consisting of the various leaders of all religions to discuss and guide their followers can lead to great benefits.Any differences can be discussed in such forums and of course such thing depends greatly to the influence of politicians and the leaders shuld talk their views freely and frankly without any rancour and ill will.This may be a dream but if that happens present day tensions can be mitigated to a great extent and our country can become a role model for others to emulate.

 

India is a country where religion is unavoidable.Hence a better understanding of it shall remove all apprehensions from the minds of people and elevate them to newer heights where man made differences on religions shall cease to exist.World of knowledge may be secular or sacred but in India all knowledge

is sacred with spiritual foundation.India has produced a number of spiritual masters who have influenced the world and there is no reason why their teachings cannot bring about a spiritual outlook in our own country which is the home of all major religions.India can be lifted only through her spiritual traditions.Strengthen her in spirituality and all other problems will get solved even the political problems.Will such a day come?
