The Ten Mahavidyas are known as Wisdom Goddesses. The spectrum of these ten goddesses covers the whole range of feminine divinity, encompassing horrific goddess's at one end, to the ravishingly beautiful at the other. Mahavidya means (Maha - great; vidya - knowledge) Goddesses of great knowledge. These Goddesses are: Kali the Eternal Night Tara the Compassionate Goddess Shodashi the Goddess who is Sixteen Years Old Bhuvaneshvari

the Creator of the World Chinnamasta the Goddess who cuts off her Own Head Bhairavi the Goddess of Decay Dhumawati the Goddess who widows Herself Bagalamukhi the Goddess who seizes the Tongue Matangi the Goddess who Loves Pollution Kamala the Last but Not the Least

 

 

 

 

 

Maha Bhagavath tells about the origin of Dasha MahaavidyaasDaksh Prajapathi conducted a yagya and lord Shiva was not invited by him for yagyaMaa Bhagavathi took permission from her husband Shiva to attend the yagya Shiva gave permission half-mindedlyMaa Bhagavathi after reaching the place of yagya saw that specific seat was allotted to all devatas,but for Bhagawan Shiva seat was not allottedSeeing this Maa became extremely angry ,her eyes became red with anger and her body started shivering violentlywith anger.Her hairs were scattered all around She was found wearing skull-necklace on her neck and was making terrible sound out of anger.Seeing her terrible form,all the devatas got frightened.

Maa Bhagawathi was shining with the brilliance of crores of sun puttogether and she was making thunderlike terrible soundsSeeing that Shiva is running away,Maa sent ten of her devis in all ten directions to stop Shiva.Then Maa told that the sadhak who daily recites the dhyan and mantra of all ten of my devis just once daily,will be happy,victorious,rich and famous.No baadha will ever come in life and sadhak gets complete victory over all enemies .
