Guest guest
Hari OM! Dear Sunil, What about people in the US, I think Ekadasi should be observed on Monday the 12th for the people living in US right. With Love & OM! On thisday Lord Krishna revealed the Bhagawad Geeta to Arjuna in thebattlefield ofKurukshetra. It is a tradition to read the Narayaneeyam on this day.May Lord bless you all.Om Namo Narayanaya:SunilOm Namo Narayanaya:
Guest guest
Do you mean Saturday, the 10th? If a person was born in India, say, on January 1st and that person emigrates to the USA , on what day should he celebrate his birthday? Guest guest
Hari OM! Dear Krishnanujan, First of all seeing dates for birthday is wrong as per our Hindu Tradition, we take star as the Birthday, so for Ekadasi also, the time for Parana etc is very important, this Kutarka will not help if you do not know, ask the people who know. And unfortunately no one is all knowing. Only Guruvayurappan can guide us. got to this site and calculate the Ekadasi day whereever you live. And it is not very smart that you have asked a question like if it is January 1 it proves your ignorance about the matter. http://www.ahobilamutt.org/ekcalc/ekcalc-01.asp With Love & OM! Guest guest
Dear Krishna's, As far as my understanding we celebrate all festivals and events on the Hindu Calendar day, that means Sunday the 11th for Guruvayoor Ekadasi, irrespective of where you are. Hindu Calendar is based on moon and other planets, positions of moon and planets are the basis of our Panjanga and used to time our festivals . This implies that it has to be of the local time as US is on the other side of earth. Most of the Hindu temples in US are very strict about following such rules and I always see the local temples here in California celebrate Hindu festivals in a similar way. However, other expert opionions are welcome. Guest guest
Sunil, You are right. All Hindus irrespective of where they live, observe the important days according to the Hindu calender. Even otherwise, it is impossible to observe such occassions based on time differences in different countries. For example, there is a 10 plus hours difference between the time in New Jersey, USA, and India. So when it is 5 am , Sunday, in India, it is 7.30 pm , Saturday, USA eastern time. So we cannot fast during the night and eat during the actual Ekadasi day. A pleasant Ekadasi observance day. Jai ashree Krishna !
