Guest guest
Ekadasi was celebrated in Guruvayoor with thousands of devotees thronging to the temple to get the Bhagavad Darshan on Ekadasi day. Long queues of devotees were seen in the east ‘nada’ of the temple since the early hours when the poojas and rituals started with Nirmalya darsanam and vaakacharthu. Guruvayur Devaswom is conducting ‘udayasthamaya pooja’ — dawn-to-dusk rituals — on its own expenses. A procession with the participation of caparisoned elephant and with the accompaniment of panchavadyam was taken out from the nearby Parthasarathi shrine to the Guruvayur temple. A festive mood has been pervading the illuminated temple town where people kept on pouring since Sunday from different parts of Kerala and the neighbouring states. It is believed that it was on the Ekadasi Day of the month of Vrishchikam of Malayalam calendar that Krishna, revered by Hindus, gave the message of Gita to Arjuna in the battle field of Kurukshetra. The temple legend also has it that Adi Sankara, the saint-philosopher who lived in the eight century AD, came down to the temple on the Ekadasi Day and prescribed the system of rituals and poojas to be followed. The temple will be kept open till 9am today, Dwadashi Day. The darshan would resume today afternoon after the purificatory ritual. — PTI
