Guest guest
Dear Devotees of Guruvayoorappan, I am Lekshmy Rajeev, a poet writing in English and translating poetry from Malayalam, publishing in leading journals and websites. I am now Poetry Editor of The British Council(India) website www.womenswriting.com. My husband is a pilot with Indian Airlines and we both hail from Trivandrum, Kerala. I have become a devotee of Guruvayoorappan through my personal encounter with seemingly insurmountable problems. He has, through His Grace, made the impossible happen. I had remained childless after ten years of marriage, despite prolonged treatment for infertility. Particularly during the past three years, hope of ever becoming a mother was dimming gradually as my physical condition was slowly, but inexorably, getting out of hand. As I was faced with the last chance of treatment, I knew this time it had to work, or else…. Then sometime in May last year, one day it just occurred to me that I must translate Narayaneeyam into English, as an anushtaana for the specific purpose of becoming a mother. I began immediately with a rough estimate of the timeframe within which I must finish the task. In my eagerness to share the translated slokas with like-minded people, I surfed the Net looking for sites on Guruvayoorappan and Narayaneeyam. This is how I entered this site and came in contact over email with Mr. Sunil Menon, the owner of the site. Early on in my attempts at translation of the dashakas of Narayaneeyam it was brought to my notice that the excellent commentary to Narayaneeyam in Malayalam by Dr.B.C.Balakrishnan will go a long way in accomplishing my task. I contacted Balakrishnan Sir, who guided me in performing parayana in a particular way to achieve my goal. Sure enough, I had certain experiences which I consider mystical during this period, at the end of which I found myself blessed with two children, instead of one child I had prayed for! Presently, I am nearly at the end of my confinement, worshipfully remembering Nandakumara within me for showering His blessings on me. This miracle is my first-hand experience of Guruvayoorappan's Grace. During the long years of my childlessness, I had been visualizing various schemes to be of positive help to deserving children who were deprived financially or physically. Honouring my late father's wishes, I hit upon the idea of offering a token financial support for them. Drawing inspiration from the discussion with two Net contacts in the USA, Children Foundation was conceived. Registered as a Trust nearly three years ago, with its headquarters in Chennai, India, the Children Foundation has already sponsored the education of 30 children who are SSLC toppers. This year, another 30 children are being given scholarship. This is how Children Foundation functions: We place an advertisement in leading Malayalam dailies in June, every year, inviting applications on white paper along with self-addressed stamped envelopes from children who have passed SSLC in May the same year. The response is enormous. We get heaps and heaps of applications. Special preference is given to handicapped children, and now, from this year onwards, to children who excel in Sanskrit. As the requests from the children reach the Trust, printed application forms are sent to them to be filled up by the children and sent back to the Foundation, duly certified by the school authorities. We are now selecting the most suitable candidate from every district. We have sent Rs.2500/- in two installments to the most deserving candidates selected last year (proof of merit, income, accounts and every document is available on request). We personally verify every detail and talk to the children and the parents. We watch their progress and keep in touch with them. From next year onwards, we wish to be more active and address all aspects faced by children that make growing up difficult. Everyday children from all over Kerala seek help from the Foundation, but there have been only a handful of people who were willing to offer support. As Children Foundation and I grow older, I earnestly look forward to support, other than the support I get from my family and a few friends. During my Net interactions with Mr.Sunil Menon, I had occasion to mention about the functioning of the Foundation and he offered to help. Besides his personal contribution, now placing this statement on his site, bringing these facts before the readers, is an indescribably generous act. Another devotee, Mr.Nandakumar from Bahrain, sponsored scholarships for children. I believe that given my divine experience and the special way Guruvayoorappan has intervened in my case, I should, first and foremost, approach all Guruvayoorappan devotees for help in my mission for children through Children Foundation which I conceived first, before my miraculous conception through His Grace. This year too, we had to limit the scholarships to 30, for lack of funds. Most of the eligible children score more than 80-85% marks, and as such need the greatest encouragement. As we wish to make the scholarships available to as many deserving children as possible next year onwards, we need more funds. Sponsoring a child for a year cost Rs.3000/- Kindly sponsor as many children as your can!!! With Warm Regards, Lekshmy Rajeev
