Sankara Jayanti, the birthday of Adi Sankara, which falls on May 2. Sankara Jayanti will be celebrated with various cultural programs accompanied by traditional rituals at different centers here. Various cultural and religious groups like Adi Sankara Kuladaiva temple, Sringeri Mutt, Sree Sankara School of Dance and the Hindu Aikyavedi, are all set to embellish the event with many spectacular dedications that intend to bring back the unchallenged knowledge disseminated by the omnipotent Guru. The celebrations include special homams, pujas, chanting of kritis penned by Sankaracharya by scholars, sapthahams, dance and music presentations based on the life and message of Adi Sankara. The Hindu Aikyavedi will conduct a march to Kalady from its various centres to commemorate the birthday of the guru. Marking the beginning of the Jayanti celebrations, Ganapathi homam, Veda, Prasthanathraya, Bhashya Sankara Vijaya parayanam, Mahanyasa yuktha rudrabhishekam and Sasthrartham vidyudsabha will be held at the Adi Sankara Janmabhoomi temple here. A colorful procession will be held at Kalady on May 2, said K.S.R. Panicker, one of the organizers of the programs. The Sree Sankara School of Dance will perform various art forms, said Sudha Peethambaran, director of the school. A mohiniyattom performance based on Kanakadharasthavam, will also be performed at Sree Sankara Natyamandapam. A cultural meet organised by Chinmaya International Foundation as part of the Sankara Jayanti celebrations, at Veliyanadu will be inaugurated by Dr. P.
