Guest guest
SANYASI -is one who has renounced the world, nyasa means renunciation, an dseeks moksha. MUNI- Manyathe ithi munih, mananaseelah. He is wise ,contemplative ascetic.Buddha was known as saakkiya muni. RSHI - A sanctified sage. They are supposed to be above humans like saptarshis. they are known as seers, meaning those who have the divine insight.Example are those rshis in Dandakaranya. MAHARSHI - Superior among the rshis like Valmiki and Vasa. RAJARSHI - One who is a rshi while being a king. Acquired jnana mainly through karmayoga like Jnaka. BRAHMARSHI - A realised master like vasishta. DEVARSHI - A brahmarshi possessed of divine powers as Narada. But the epithets muni , rshi and maharshi are often used synonymously in practice.Rshis are born as such due to their merit in purvajanma but visvamitra proved that it can be acquired even in manushyajanma, though he is the sole example of that. I have written what I know about these terms and if there is any other source of information giving more details members are welcome to share it.
