Guest guest
From K.V. Gopalakrishna, 22A, Second Cross, Judicial Officers' Layout, Sanjay Nagar, Bangalore-560095 Sir, Sub: Desacration of Sabarimala I am wondering why the media, public and the Sabarimala Devaswom authorities are making such a hue and cry over an incident which is supposed to have been taken place years ago, about a woman going to Sabarimala and claiming to have touched the image of the deity. It might be true or untrue. The great Thanthris and Devaswom authorities should know that the Lord is sacred and undefileable. He is the one who purifies us and destroys our sins. How can anybody defile the Almighty? Can anyone defile the Ganga, in spite of all the refuse of whole city of Varanasi is flowing into it without any restrictions? The rules about public visiting Sabarimala or any other sacred place have been defined from time immemorial for the good of the devotees. If the Tantri himself is observing certain rules like purity external and internal (Bahya-abhyantarah suchih) because, if he touches the deity unclean in body and mind, the harm is to him and not to the God. Similarly, if a lady of age in the productive range goes to Sabari Mala, she cannot defile the deity, nor the deity will be infatuated by her. The harm will accrue only to her, if at all there is any harm. I wish wiser counsel will prevail and the matter gets dropped without escalating any further. I am not advocating relaxation of the rules in any of the sacred places. The sanctity of the place of worship should be maintained, and lapses prevented in the interests of the ignorant devotees, no doubt, but if any lapse has already occured for whatever reason, it should be forgotten and forgiven. If it a sin, it is for the deliberate infringer of the rule. And if it is done unknowingly, there is no sin, and one will be pardoned. There is no use of crying over split milk. It only makes confusion confounded. K.V. Gopalakrishna, Bangalore.
Guest guest
Gopalakrishnaji, Very well said...I fully agree with you on this. Wonder why Sabarimala Temple is always coming under unwanted media publicity for one reason or the other. The masses need to be educated and our current educational system does not support any kind of religious education for Hindu children who have to rely on outside help for such purposes. And the current generation gets carried away with anything shown on TV and other visual and print media. Intellectuals like you and the team that came up with the English version of Narayaneeyam can come up with simple books that can help remove such ignorance and foolish superstitions and shown the correct way for all to follow..
