Guest guest
Dear Shri Krisna Prasad In Mumbai it is being celebrated on 16th August and we are having holiday also on 16th. However, we celebrate Ashtamini Rohini only in Chinga masam and not Karkidakam. Karkidakam will be over only on 16th August and 17th is Chingam 1. So let us all celebrate Ashtami Rohini on 14th Sept alongwith our Guruvayoorappan Sincerely SyamalaKrishna Prasad <rkrishp99 wrote: Hari OM! Guest guest
Hare Krishna ! Guruvayurappa ! Dear all, I once heard a notable speaker giving a discourse during Guruvayur utsavam in Melpathur auditorium. He happened to mention that in Kerala, the avatara dinam (Appearance days of the Lord) are all calculated using the solar calendar. But in North India, it is normally calculated using Lunar calendar. He went on to mention that the Lunar calendar method is the more accurate one for arriving at the Avatara Appearance days of Sri Guruvayurappan. Going by this, our sweet Lord's birthday is ideally celebrated on Aug 16, 2006. Of course, there may be good reasons to celebrate Ashtami Rohini in the month of Chingam - as it is practised in Guruvayur - that would make it Sep 14 then !! could somoone shed more light on this? (Also, outside Kerala, it is generally JanmASHTAMI or GokulASHTAMI etc. where as in Kerala, we have ASHTAMI ROHINI) There was an interesting work by Sri Madhwacharya on determining the Janmashtami date - if I find it, I will post it. -sriram ========= --- Syamala Nair <syamalaraghunath wrote: > Dear Shri Krisna Prasad > > In Mumbai it is being celebrated on 16th August > and we are having holiday also on 16th. > > However, we celebrate Ashtamini Rohini only in > Chinga masam and not Karkidakam.
