Guest guest
Hari OM! Dear Vijayaji, This I heard it from a Satsang, Please other members can elaborate on this. Guruvayurappan is also known as Unni Krishnan, represents Sattvaguna and is the centripetal force as it were responsible for sustenance, protection and maintenance of the created Universe. Another name of Guruvayurappan is Narayana. Krishna is always described as Nialamegahasyana, of a dark blue hue like than of the rain-bearing cloud. The icon of Guruvayurappan has one face and four arms each one holding Sankha (conch), Chakra (discus), Gada (mace), Padma (lotus) and wears a necklace with the famous gem Kaustubha dangling on the lock of hair Srivatsa, on the left chest. He also wears a garland (of gems or fragrant flowers) Vaijayanti by name. The Sankha represents the five elements like the Space, Air, Water earth, etc; chakra stands for the cosmic mind, Gada indicates the cosmic intellect and the Padma points to the evolving world. The curl of hair, Srivatsa, represents all objects of enjoyment, the products of nature. The gem Kaustubha, resting on it, stands for the enjoyer. The garland Vaijayanti is symbolical of the subtle elements. with Love & OM! Guest guest
Dear all, Radhe krishna! The point which Vijayaji has asked is different. she has particilar doubt about the orientation of the stalk of the Padma, which, in some pictures, is shown coming right down to the foot and going up to His hand, and in some, where the Padma is shown straight in His hands without showing the stalk. I personally feel it is all quite imaginary picturisation. As everyone knows, the stalk of the Padma has its origin at the navel of the Lord. When He is wearing the Peethambara which covers His navel also, the Padma cannot be shown with the lotus stalk projecting out of the navel, which becomes awkward. So it is the imagination of the person who has drawn the picture, that the lotus stalk comes down along the leg, within the Peethambara and then is shown as again coming upward for the Lord's hand to hold it. After all, who has seen really how it is oriented.? It is all each person's imagination. Guest guest
Dear Gopalakrishnaji, Is'nt it that Maha Vishnu is Padmanaabha (Lotus coming from His navel) and at the same time Padmahasta (Having Lotus flower in His hands). As it is stated: Shankhum Chakram Gada Pankajam Idivilasam Naalu Trikaigaluude Sankiirna Shyama Varnam Harivapulamaram Puraye Mangalam Va (Don't know whether I have pronounced this correctly & what is the source of this. Apologies!) When Shree Maha Vishnu is lying down in the ocean of Kshirasagara (Milk ocean) He is lying down on the Sheshanaga (Ananta) and from His nabham the Padma is coming and on the Padma Lord Brahma is sitting. As it is stated: Shantakaram Bhujagasayanam Padmanabham Suresham Vishwakaram Gaganasadrusam Meghavarnam Shubhangam Lakshmikantam Kamalanayanam Yogibhir Dhyanagamyam. Vande Vishnum Bhavabhayaharam Sarvalokykanatham. Please do inform what you think of the answer which I tried to give in the thread guruvayur/message/3841: --- Now coming to your question (which is indeed a very nice one!)-- The only thing which I can think of is that the Lotus (Aravindam) sometimes wants to taste being near the Lotus Feet (Padaaravindam) of Krishna and hence sometimes it extends it's stem to get that nectarean bliss of being near Krishna's lotus feet. The scholars in this group will be able to answer it better.... ....Hanta Bhaagyam Janaanaam!!! --- Coming to think of it now -- I think it does not really require scholarly abilities but lots of devotion and love for Krishna in order to understand this???? Please forgive any offenses which I might have made while replying to you. Thank you! ~Krishnadasa. guruvayur , " K.V Gopalakrishna " <gopalakrishna.kv wrote: > > Dear all, > Radhe krishna! > > The point which Vijayaji has asked is different. she has particilar > doubt about the orientation of the stalk of the Padma, which, in some > pictures, is shown coming right down to the foot and going up to His > hand, and in some, where the Padma is shown straight in His hands > without showing the stalk. > > I personally feel it is all quite imaginary picturisation.
