Guest guest
Hare Krishna !! Guruvayurappa !! Just thought I might mention a few temples I know of, which are situated close to Guruvayur temple. i) Mammiyoor Siva temple - < 10 mins walk from Guruvayur temple. Lord Siva has moved to this place to give room for Sri Guruvayurappan. A visit to Guruvayur is considered incomplete by many, without visiting Mammiyoor and taking Lord Siva's blessings. ii) Sri Parthasaarathi temple - sreekovil modelled after a chariot - adjacent to Guruvayur Railway Station - this is the place where Lord Krishna offered darshan in His Vishva roopam to Narada Muni who is said to have performed penance (tapas) there with that objective in mind. iii) Sree Venkatachalapathi (Balaji) Temple - also known as Thiruvenkitam - locally. It is easy to reach from Sri Parthasarathi temple or from Mammiyoor side as well. Fascinating chatur bhuja (4 handed) deity of the Lord. Normally autorickshaws will take you around to all the three temples (i, ii,iii) as a package - they used to charge something around Rs 30 - but I reckon, now it might even be Rs.50. It will take less than 1 hour that way. iv) Also, another beautiful ancient temple worth seeing would be Chovvalloor Siva temple. This would be approx. 4-5 kms from Guruvayur (towards Thrissur). v) Hari kanyakaa temple - Ariyannoor - the deity is said to be Mohini murti - but now-a-days worshipped as Devi. (5-6 kms towards Thrissur). Temple is not in very good condition and closes in the morning after puja at 09:30 AM !!!! [it is one of the protected monuments under Archaeology dept.] Also, make it a point to visit Gajarajan Kesavan's memorial with his life like statue - and Maraprabhu - adjacent to that. In the Panchajanyam guest house compound is a small memorial for Sri Manaveda Raja. A visit to these places should kindle in us many many memories of Sri Guruvayurappan's apaara leela !! A visit to these places should be a meditation on the wonderful past-times enacted by our Lord for the sake of these wonderful devotees. A visit to Naaraayanaalayam - the residence and memorial of Thirunaamaacharyan Sri Anjam Madhavan Namboodiri, and also darshan of Poonthanam's Krishna deity installed there would be to your advantage. I think this information would be sufficient for you to plan out and execute a comprehensive pilgrimage of Guruvayur and nearabouts in a very short time !!! Please visit: http://www.guruvayurdevaswom.org/accomo.shtml for knowing more on Accommodation provided by Guruvayur Devaswom guest houses. (This page is part of the official website of Guruvayur Devaswom.) - The accommodation provided by Devaswom is usually cheap and best. You could choose Panchajanyam (on the South Nada - very close to temple) or Kausthubham (East Nada). I know many of this forum members would be knowing all this, but still, I feel I should mention here for the benefit of those who dont know - even if that be 1 or 2 persons. Hare Krishna ! -sriram ========== --- vinodpillai777 <vinodpillai777 wrote: > Dear Mr Balasubramanian > > In east Nada there is Nandini Tourist Home, they have > vegetarian hotel > also Their rates are reasonable .
