later, it was renamed as 'aplied mahematics'. Since then the original mathematics got the unwanted tag 'pure' prefixed to it. The 'ism' of Hindu is like that. What existed in this creation was the 'adi' dharma or sanatana dharma or just dharma of the creation. In the Bharata Khanda, this dharma was kept more or less in its original form for a pretty long period. When Krita Yuga trancended to Treta, the distortion began. For example Ravana worshipping only Shiva, ignoring the satya and Sundara, began a pursuit of mundane and base version of Ananda or Shiva. The result is a turmoil which required the intervention of the creator. From Treta to Dwapara, dharma lost the rita and satyam. The vedas were misinterpreted to benefit a few sections of society; in place of the Varnashrama system Varna and ashrama were seperated, Ashrama was ignored and varna began to be associated with birth and biological parentage. superstition took over rationalise realisation. The three

Krishnas in Maha Bharata came together to bring out the unique masterpiece: Bhagavad Gita to remove the superstition and psuedo identification of body and soul, stressing the impermanence of every thing that is created to be distinguished from the creator. For every dirty thing done by human, the responsibility or blame was thrown on God. God became Gods - not devatas mind you.Sanatana dharma till then absorbed every faith from any part of Jamboo Dweepa. But now the dharma was so much distorted in practice that it was easily subjected to the superstition of the invaders. It was then, because the invaders

brought religions, the people of Bharata Khand felt they too shd have a religion and attached the tag 'ism' like 'pure' in the case of mathematics stated at very beginning. Why this part of the land is called Indie or hindu is another and irrelevant story.The net fall-out is that we have denegrated the Dharma to a religion and prefered to call the land Hindu. When Dharma of creation is contaminated by untruths, superstitions, contradictions and paradoxes and prejudices, it becomes religion. Needless to say that it will have defects. The very purpose of Gita is to expose these defects etc and get back as close to Dharma as possible. Krishna, the revolutionary, stressed the importance of Vedanta and the ignorance of Poorva Meemamsa - a capital crime in the eyes of a section of society. Buddha tried to do the same as Krishna and was promptly branded Avaidika, Naastika and Maadhyamika. Buddha cared for Dharma, not religion and it is the

tragedy of our land that we have now an 'ism' in place dharma.
