The sloka quoted by Krishna dasa

brahmano hi prathishtaaham amrthastyaavayasya cha

sasvathasya cha dharmasya sukhasyaikaanthikasya cha

Sankara'scommentary is as follows.

Prathithishtathi asmin ithi prathishTaa,brahmaNah, paramaathmanah

prathishTaa aham, meaning, the inner self is the ground for the supreme

self.as Brahman ,the supremeself dwells in the individual self. The

ssence of Brahman is immortality, immutability, eternally righteous and

unfailing bliss.

Sankara commenting on the previous sloka says, the one, may he be a

renouncer(tathi) or a worker(karmee)who serves Me (Sankara elucidates

this as isvara, narayana sarvabhoothahrdhayaasritha- the lord Narayana

who dwells within the heart of all) with unswerving devotion,

transcends the gunas and becomes fit for the state of Brahman,

ie.competent for attaining liberation.

The word brahmabhooya is defined by Sankara as the status as

Brahman. And bhakthiyoga is explained as having discriminating knowledge

as its essence and that kind of bhakthi is attained through divine

grace.(sa hi bhakthiyogah bhavadhanugrahaprasaadhajah bhavathi.)

Or says Sankara, if the word 'aham' is taken to mean the saguna brahman

it is the abode of nirguna brahman, which is described as amrtha ,

avyaya sasvatha dharama and absolute bliss.
