Sree Guruvayoor Appa namostute! It would have been very helpful if any Guruvayoor Appan Devotee couldspare some time to explain the meaning and the significance of "LokaSamasta Sukhino Bhavantu".I don't know whether it is a principle exclusively from the Hinduphilosophy.I got the passage from a web-site of Saibaba:http://www.saibaba. ws/prayers/ lokasamastasukhi nobhavantu.Loka Samasta Sukino Bhavantu - Meaning: May the Lord bless the wholeworld with eternal peace and goodwill. Also, I had recently read a passage: "Do unto others as you would havethem do unto you" (Ref. Religion for Dummies. ISBN: 07645-5264-3,page: 34), which also conveys almost the same message, but to alimited extent. Most of the Guruvayoor Appan Devotees (the learned ones) may find itvery simple and explicit. But I am sure there may at least a few

likeme who will be benefited if some one explains the significance in somesimple language. With unqualified respects to all other Guruvayoor Appan Devotees, Yours sincerely nb nair.Send instant messages to your online friends http://uk.messenger.

The original verse is svasthi prajAbhyah paripAayanthAm nyAyyEnmArgENa maheem maheeSAh gObrAhmaNEbhyah Subhamasthu nithyam lOkAssamasthAh sukhinO bhavanthu This sloka is recited at the end of Ramaynaparayana. It means, May the kings rule their subjects well following the path of justice and righteuosness.May the cows and brahmanas louris well and may all the worlds live happily. This is a benediction for the whole society. LokAssamasthAssukhinObhavanthu can be construed to mean the whole universe or qs Sreedhar has explained it may mean the threerealms of existence because the different lokas loke bhorbhuvassuvaetc are actually the realms of consciousness. This could well have been taken from vedas wcih abounds in such benidictory verses. saroja ramanujam "sreedhar c.p" <sreepal20 wrote: Hare Krishna, what I know in sipmle way is, Loka Samasta Sukhino Bhavantu.-----( Mental realm)Loka Samasta Sukhino Bhavantu.-----( Physical realm)Loka Samasta Sukhino Bhavantu.-----( Emotional realm)MEANING: May the Denizens of the

Dear all,

Radhe krishna!

LOKAH SAMASTHAH SUKHINO BHAVANTHU.

This prayer means, "May all the living beings in this universe

comprising of many worlds, be happy".

Actually it is the last of a bigger Prarthana-sloka which reads as

"SWASTHIH PRAJABHYAH PARIPALAYANTHAM

NYAYYENA MARGENA MAHEEM MAHEESAH.

GO-BRAMHANEBHAY SUBHAMASTHU NITHYAM

LOKAH SAMASTHAH SUKHINO BHAVANTHU.

Meaning: (May the) MAHEESAH= rulers of the country,

PARIPALAYANTHAM=take care of, or administer, dispense justice.to

MAHEEM= the earth, (the country or the world) MARGENA=(following a

path) NYAYYENA (which is justful so that) SWASTHIH = good (will accrue)

to PRAJABHYAH= all the subjects.. SUBHAM ASTHU= May happiness prevail

GO-BRAHMANEBHAH= to cows and Brahmanas, LOKAH SAMASTHAH SUKHINI

BHAVANTHU.= May all the living beings in the universe comprising of

many worlds be happy.

It was understood that if the cows and brahmanas are happy, everyone

else is also happy. Brahmanas does not mean "Brahmins by birth", but

"the ones who know the real nature of Brahman, that is God without

fortm".

K.V. Gopalakrishna.

HARI AUM

Every time we get to read a powerful sloka, in

Sanskrit, one is awe struck. As one chants one can

feel the electrifying power of both the concept and

the language. Truly Sanskrit must be the language of

the Gods.

Hope Gopalakrishnaji shall post more of such

'prarthana' slokas. Let us all be blessed with them.

Regards
