May be I have mentioned this earlier. I have been learning Sanskrit through

Samskrita

bharathi and I think they are doing a very good job. They use a more scientific

approach to

teach sanskrit, the way a child learns its mother tongue.

As the organization puts it, language has several stages. They being, hearing,

speaking,

reading and writing, in that order. We learn our mother tongue in this manner,

but

unfortunately when it comes to learning a new language most teachers approach it

at level

three and four, i.e. reading and writing, which sometimes is detrimental.

Samskrita bharathi is a non-profit organization. They have volunteers in India

and US, who

would be glad to have classes in your local area. They also have good beginners

books and

VCDs, which help one learn very easily.

http://samskrita-bharati.org/newsite/publications.php#beginner

You can try to contact the organization through the net or you can e-mail me

your name

and city of residence. I try surely try to get information about the contact

person in your

area. There are several volunteers in the San Jose/San francisco area, too. For

those in

India, the head quarters is in Bangalore.

It would surely be nice to have sanskrit lessons in the group, but I think it

surely helps to

have it in a class format, where the teachers interact directly interact with

the student,

atleast during the beginning classes.

sanskrit is a tough language4 to learn. its not the pronounciation that matters in sanskrit, but the sound of the pronounciation is considered highest in sanskrit. so if the sound is different, the word is probably wrong. Correct... Hope sunil will keep this in his mind as the moderator of this group, if he is going to find a teacher in this forum ( possibily Sarojamji), The font has to be defined and circulated to download in users font folder in their computer. and the lessons should include the audio file from the begining. And it is not easy to learn in short term like other languages. A word in Sanskrit has a direct meaning, but has several other meanings as its usage in different sentences. The grammer of Sanskrit should be explained well too.. Really it will be a tuff task, but Sri Guruvayoorappan will help us to succeed. The learners should be dedicative and determined to understand the language well before put this in display and should be careful to not to make damages to the language by wrong use.
