Guest guest
Gayathri Mantra This most ancient and profound Sanskrit mantra, known as the mother of the Vedas, provides a bridge between the silence of meditation and the activity of the liturgy. The Gayathri is a 24-syllable hymn from the Rig Veda (III, 62, 10). It is one of the oldest prayers known to humanity, being as ancient as light and also the vital force itself. While its sound alone is beautiful and potent, its complex and deeply layered meaning give much light to its use in our contemplation and celebration. The Gayathri Mantra is one of the key notes to the transformation of consciousness and is an identical vibration to the vital force in nature. This prayer appeals to the highest wisdom; to the brilliance of the cosmos to illumine an understanding of our true nature. The appeal requests that we become subtle and receptive to the divine wisdom that pervades the experience of life and is the essence of our very Self. Om bhoor-bhuvah-svah Tat savitur varenyam Bhargo devasya dheemahi Dhiyo yo nah prachodayaat. " O God! Thou art the giver of life, The remover of pains and sorrows, The bestower of happiness, O Creator of the Universe, May we receive thy supreme sin-destroying light. May thou guide our intellect in the right direction. " The word by word meaning is given as follows: Sanskrit Translation and different intrepretations English Version OM The Almighty God. All of existence. Perceptive vibration of the cosmos. Life. Throughout the experience of Life BHOOR The physical world. Existence (Sat) Earth Embodiment of sustainer of life BHUVAH The mental world. Consciousness (Chit) Sky Destroyer of suffering. SVAH The intellectual world. True Bliss (Anand) Heavens Embodiment of happiness. TAT That; Supreme Self indicates the three planes of experience, isness, pure being, God. (in third person) That essential nature SAVITUR Bright, luminous like the sun. Source of all things. Knowledge. illuminating existence VARENYAM Adorable. Venerable. Supreme. Best is the adorable BHARGO Permeated with Magnificence. The destroyer of ignorance and sin. One. DEVASYA Divine. Intrinsically pure and brilliant. DHEEMAHI Meditation-focused, absorbed. Receiving. May receive May all beings perceive through subtle and meditative intellect DHIYO Intellect. YO Who. NAH Us, Our. PRACHODAYAAT May Inspire, enlighten and invigor. the brilliance of enlightened awareness. Gayathri Mantra is the embodiment of all forms of Spirit and does not belong to any particular sect of worship nor is it restricted to a certain community. It is universal in its scope. It contains in it the culture of no particular society, but the culture of humanity itself. The Gayathri is a treasure and heritage that belongs to everyone without exclusion. Guest guest
Thanks for sharing the Gayathri. However, I also like to hear from our members about the power of Gayathri Manthra and precautions for using the it right. Like when and how to use the Manthra. Also when NOT to use the manthra as it may have different results if mis-used. Om Namo Narayanaya: Sunil. guruvayur , " kezhoor " <kezhoor wrote: > > Gayathri Mantra > > This most ancient and profound Sanskrit mantra, known as the mother > of the Vedas, provides a bridge between the silence of meditation and > the activity of the liturgy.
