Guest guest
I think this was a message that the group received only today due to the recent server problems---Moderator note. --------------------- The second chapter of the gita is about the nature of self and conrol of the mind portraying sthiTha prajna, a man of realisation. Purndhara as the name indicates could be interpreted as an embodied soul, puram meaning the sarira. Like Arjuna who is completely human with all the failings he finds no mental peace and approaches the sage who directs him to Mithravan, a friendly soul who is a stiTha prajna. This could even mean Krishna himself who instructed Arjuna on the Athmavidhya. Dhurdhama is the mind of a man who is under the control of the indhriyas and it becomes dhurdhama, an abode of wicked impulses. As the sloka in second chapter 'dhyAyathO vishayAn pumsah' explains kama krodha moha and other evils take hold of man which is signified by the woman of evil character and her daughter denoted the result of life spent in sensusal pleasures which do not leave the man even in old age until finally he is thrown out by his own doings driven by old age and disease. The vasanas die with him but do not leave him and he pursues them even in next life as the man pursued the sheep. But when the time of redemption comes dur to the past karma the good influence, sat sanga tram nsforms the texture of the vasanas and the monkey is the acharya who shows the path of Sukarma. The implication of this story seems to be the extention of the previous one explained by the sloka " api chet sudhuracharo,'as even the wicked impulses are turned into good ones with the grace of the Lord. The sloka 59 of the second chapter is vishayA vinivartthanthE nirAhArasya dhEhinah rasavarjam rasOpyasya param dhrshtv nivarthathE. Objects fall off for a man who stops feeding the senses but the taste remains till the supreme relity is perceived. The bad impulses are quitened with good influence but to prevent them from not occurring it is necessary to practise spiritual disciplines and chanting the second chapter is one of them and if it is done after knowing the meaning it will fetch speedy results. saroja ramanujam
