Guest guest
My family is from Palakkad and, not surprisingly, we are Guruvayoorappan devotees. My brother and I are settled in the U.S. and my sister, who was in the U.S., is now settled back in India (Bombay). I thought I'll share with you a " Krishna Leela " story involving my sister and my nephew. This happened a few years ago. I meant to post this earlier, but never got around to it. My nephew was in the U.S. on a work visa and his fiancee was also in the U.S. doing her PhD. My sister, an ardent Krishna devotee, wanted her son to get married in a Krishna temple. Since my nephew's fiancée is from Maharashtra, my sister arranged for them to get married in a Krishna temple near Bombay. When my nephew approached his American boss to request leave, his boss suggested that my nephew get married in the U.S. as his fiancée was also here. That way, he said, my nephew can continue working on his projects without taking too much time off. My nephew said he is sorry but he has to go to India for at least two weeks. My nephew was fired from his job since he didn't go along with his boss' wish. My nephew called my sister, relayed the whole story, and told her that he is coming home for the wedding and that his return to the U.S. depends on his finding another employer to sponsor him. Distraught, my sister looked at the Guruvayoorappan idol in her pooja room and said with tears in her eyes, " all I wanted was my son to get married in your temple and now he got into difficulty because of me. If that's your wish, fine, so be it. " The evening before my nephew was to land in Bombay, his former boss from his job called my sister and told her to have my nephew call him as soon as he landed in Bombay. He said he came to know of my nephew's situation and interceded on his behalf. He told her that after the wedding my nephew should return to the U.S. and report back to him in Texas, instead of California where my nephew was based when he was fired. My nephew still works for the same company, and is now assigned to Bangalore, India, as the head of his company's operations in India, China and Singapore. I find myself thinking of this story and a couple of other things that happened to me and my wife (a Shirdi Sai devotee, owing to her upbringing in Bombay) that has to do with Sai Baba and Krishna, when one situaton or another leads me to doubt the existence of God. - Ravi
