Guest guest
Dear Aniyan, Fully agree that a bonafide spritual master is essential to make spiritual progress. How does one identify a real Guru in today's world of cheaters and phoney godmen ? Can one accept spiritual books like the revered Narayaneem or the Srimad Bhagwatham as one's Guru? Please guide this directionless sinner. Very humbly, Anant.aniyan_ap <aniyan_ap wrote: Jai Sreekrishna!! It is important for a spiritual aspirant to understand what is meant by Guru ('gu' meaning darkness, and 'ru' meaning dispeller" = "dispeller of darkness") in spiritual context. Guest guest
Jai Sreekrishna!! Before concluding all as cheaters, have you ever directly tried any one of them by spending some time with them or is it simply an assumption derived from public talks? My faith is that, if one is intensely inquisitive and sincere on the path, he does not have to run hither and thither for a guru; definitely a bona fide master will reach him. Guest guest
!! Sri Rama Jayam !! Hello Sri Aniyan, Thanks for sharing it. These words connects my memory to a very thought-provoking incident from the historical serial 'Chanakya'. The incident goes like this --- A caravan is moving towards Magadha kingdom. A thorn from cactus pricks the bare foot of the person walking with the caravan. Very obviously, the man removes the thorn & walks away cursing the plant. Some where kind enough to apply medicine on his wound & pray for his goodnes. Others where smart enough to see the thorny plant but decided to proceed on a different route so as to avoid any woundings on them (atleast). These three classes of people are very common to find in the world of devotion. A young man was following the caravan who had decided to act differently. To everyone's surprise, he was very quick to uproot the whole plant, burry it & cover the area with sand. That act saved all others from the pain of thorn who were about to travel on the same path. The young man was none other than Chanakya himself - a great teacher-cum-politician of India. Unlike others it is the teacher/master or more correctly a 'Guru' alone who removes the thorns from the path of devotion than only applying medicine or praying at a later stage. Guest guest
Yes Vinod. It is absolutely true that only by the Grace of a Satguru the thorns can be removed completely if one has to make progress in the spiritual realm. So long as we are tied to the material things it is very difficult to make any advance. That does not mean that we shuld shun all the material things and lead a life of a sadhu. One can lead a family life but only thing too much attachment to any matters will be a block to spiritual progress as after all the so called material things can't give everlasting happiness and one desire will lead to another and so the vicious circle continues. This is what happens to all.To come out of this maya one shuld hv the willy nilly to detach from attachments in whatever form as Self Realisation is possible only when we get rid of the thorns of desires and faithfully following the guidance of the Guru the gates of heavenly bliss open.A nice presentation.
