Thanks a lot for sharing this Balagopal Ji. Tulasi Devi bestows Krishna Prema (Pure Love for Krishna) to the one who cares her and offers her unto the Lorus feet of Krishna. Here's a beautiful shloka on Tulasi Devi: --- Sri Tulasi Pranama vrndayai tulasi-devyaipriyayai kesavasya cakrsna-bhakti-prade devisatyavatyai namo namah I offer my repeated obeisances unto Vrnda, Srimati Tulasi-devi, who is very dear to Lord Kesava. O goddess, you bestow devotional service to Lord Krsna and possess the highest truth. --- This and other prayers on Tulasi Devi can be read from this link: http://www.vrindavan-dham.com/vrinda/songs-prayers.php Shree Guruvayurappa Sharanam! ~Krishnadasa. balagopal ramakrishnan <rbalpal wrote: HARI AUMI do not remember the earlier posting on the story of'tulasi'. Bhagavanhad to do to keep the world running!!RegardsBalagopalNARAYANA NARAYANA NARAYANATulasi devi becomes a plant ********************** Pastimes involving pure devotees are only for thebenefit of conditioned souls in the material world. This pastime, given in the Padma purana and in theBrahma-vaivarta purana involvong Tulasi devi revealsthis clearly. Once Tulasi devi descended as the daughter of KingKushadvaja. She was married to Jalhandara. It is saidthat Samudra deva the demigod controlling the netherregions had Lakshmi devi as a daughter (since sheappeared from him at time of the churning of theocean) and Jalandara (one who is born from water). Jalandara was married to Tulasi devi and drew strengthfrom her purity and chastity. So firm was her chastitythat even Lord Shiva could not defeat Jalandara inbattle and all the demigods went to Lord Vishnu

forhelp. At this time, Lord Vishnu went to Tulasi devi assumingthe form of her husband, Jalandara. When Tulasi devigreeted Him, thinking Him to be her husband, herchastity was momentarily broken. Taking advantage ofthis the demigods killed Jalandara. When Tulasi devi understood what happened, Lord Vishnurevealed His original form. An enraged Tulasi devicursed Lord Vishnu for His stone hearted behavior tobecome a stone. Honoring His pure devotee, Lord Vishnuaccepted this curse and promised to appear as theSaligrama shila in the Gandika river (now in Nepal). He also gave Tulsai devi the benediction that she willeternally reside with Him as His consort in Vaikuntha. He said that for the benefit of every one she willassume the form of a plant which will be mostauspicious for anyone performing devotional service. Thus devotees never offer anything to Krishna withouta Tulasi leaf. He always

adorns Himself with a Tulasigarland. The goddess of fortune, Laksmi, is sometimesenvious of the Tulasi leaves which are placed at thelotus feet of the Lord, for they remain fixed thereand do not move, whereas Laksmiji, although stationedby the chest of the Lord, sometimes has to pleaseother devotees who pray for her favor. Laksmijisometimes has to go to satisfy her numerous devotees, but tulasi leaves never forsake their position, andthe Lord therefore appreciates the service of thetulasi more than the service of Laksmi.
