Guest guest
Dear all, Many great devotees have composed several songs in diferent raagas praising Sri Krishna. For example, saint Thyagaraja's compositions - each one is a gem. Because, each song is saturated with love for Sri Ramachandra. There are very few songs composed on Lord Krishna by Saint Thyagaraja. One famous example is " Samaja Vara Gamana " in raga Hindola where Sri Krishna is praised as " One whose walk is as majestic as an Elephant " . So, how do we come to any conclusion that this or that particular raaga is Krishna's favourite ? Because, by seeing saint Thyagaraja's example, each song has same love for Lord and if he were to compose any song in any ragga, it would still be sweet because, it is rich in love and devotion. Even if there are raagas which Sri Krishna likes, suppose somebody with pure heart composes any song in any raaga ( or no specific raaga at all just a few words) with genuine love, then Krishna would still like it as much his " favourite songs " . Because, in my opinion, we can impress Krishna more with love and devotional service rather than by our scholarship in Carnatic music devoid of devotion. Bye. Girish.M. B.Tech. ECE. NITC. Guest guest
i have heard hanumaan ji 's favourite raaga is HINDOLAM. will try to find out krishna's, if there is any spl. raaga as his favourite through my vocalist friends. vijaya venkatesh guruvayur , GANAPATHY RAMAN <agraman62 wrote: > > May be many ragas came into existence during the present yuga. With due respect to KVG, I understand that Ravana was a doyen in all the arts incl. vocal, instrumental esp.veena.That was the reason he preferred to put veena as an emblem in his flag. This naturally follows he must hv been versatile in carnatic ragas too.He was an ardent devotee of Siva and used to please Him with his music. So I feel it is not correct to say that there were no ragas during ancient times taking into consideration that Rama and Ravana lived before Krishnas time.Hence the ragas must hv been in existence during Dwapara yuga also. > > When Krishna says that He is such and such meter, month, season, rishi, archer etc why He failed to say in raga also He is such and such raga may not be the present ragas but a differnt raga.Perhaps Krishna wanted Him to be the other things and evidently must not hv given much importance to ragas which He must hv left to posterity.Of course we are not concerned which raga is the favourite one of Krishna as we can presume all ragas are His favourites sung with bhava and bhakthy. > > This topic is not that important for a detailed discussion ,just like eversomany other topics on which lot of comments come in the Group on silly things.Since > a friend raised this it is out of curiosity only further discussions came. Now from the discussion it is evident nobody is sure of the raga which is a favourite one of > Krishna. So as KVG said it is better to leave the matter as it is as time need not be wasted on a topic the answer for which nobody knows or can give..In this I agree with Mrs.Ramanujam for the candid reply that Krishna was not a good musician to perform ragas and the ragas during His time also might not be that of the present one.But she too admits that there must hv been ragas during His time also. That admission from a good scholar who also says she is not sure of the ragas during Krishnas period makes one feel there is no need for further > discussion and can treat the discussion as closed without result. > > " K.V Gopalakrishna " <gopalakrishna.kv wrote: > Dear all, > The present day ragas in music came into existence only after the 72 > Mela-karthas, which are a product of the Kali-yuga.
