Dear Sriram,

Thanks for the detail explanation. I really liked your narration and good to

know about your visits to Poonthanam illam.

Yes, the story you narrated about Idathupurathappan is well known in

the whole of Valluvanad. If you travel by road from Palakkad to

Kozhikode, you can see the Idathupuram temple & the temple pond on

left side of the road (from Palakkad side) right after crossing the

railway gate at Angadipuram. (Its about 2 Kms from Perintalmanna).

A little ahead (about a quarter Km )of Idathupuram temple is the

famous Thirumandhamkunnu Bhagavathi temple. And about 100 meters from

Thirumandhamkunnu temple gate is the famous Agnadipuram Tali Mahadeva

Temple.

(Tali temple is in the news lately -

http://www.hindu.com/2007/09/01/stories/2007090154340400.htm )

Angadipuram being a temple town, there are many other temples also in

town.

Unfortunately I do not have any more snaps of Poonthanam illam.

However there are some photos of Angadipuram Thirumandhamkunnu temple

and the famous 11 days pooram festival.

Angadipuram Thirumandhamkunnu Bhagavathy is the powerful desha devatha

for people like me from the old Valluvanad Rajyam; ruled by Valluva

konathiri. The famous Mamakam fights were between the 'Chavers' of Valluva

Konathiri and Samoothiri (Zamorin) of Kozhikode.

Eventually even Samoothiri convinced of the power of Bhagavathy (many

interesting stories that you can read on the net - search for Zamorin and

Thirumandhakunnu) and did 41 days bhajanam at the Angadipuram temple and built

the " Thiruvalayanad Temple " in the model of Thirumandhamkunnu Temple.

If anyone needs more information to visit Poonthanam illam

or Angadipuram Bhagavathi temple, I will be glad to provide the same.

Amme Bhagavathi,Sharanam.

Om Namo Narayanaya:

Sunil.
