Kuchela had fallen on desperately bad times with nothing to feed his wife and children with. Kuchela, a great Krishna bhakt, was requested by his wife to seek Lord Krishna's help, who was then the King of Dwaraka. Kuchelan did not wish to go bare-handed to meet the Lord, but the family had nothing of value. The story goes that Kuchelan's wife went from house to house and got some paddy.which she pounded and handed over the resulting "aval" tied in a piece of cloth to Kuchelan to offer to the Lord. There were hardly three mouth fulls of the "aval"Kuchelan finally reached Dwarka. The Lord spotted Kuchela approaching the palace from far. So happy was the Lord to see his beloved Sudhama (Kuchelan) that he ran out into the streets to embrace him. He ordered that the palace be decked up to greet his friend. Kuchelan was escorted into the palace by Lord Krishna .He made him sat on this throne and the Lord alongwith Rukminidevi then washed Kuchelan's feet and sprayed that teertham on his head and also advised others to do so. Guest guest
Jai Sreekrishna To the best of my knowledge, no vratham is kept on that day. We remember Kuchela dinam as it is the best example of the relationship between two who studied together in Gurkulam. One became the king and the other kuchelan. Still the way Lord Krishna welcomed his friend should be an example for everyone. Secondly although Kuchelan reached Dwaraka and met Sreekrishna to seek HIS help as requested by his wife, he forgot everything once he met Sreekrishnan and did not ask for anything. However, the karunyam of Lord towards HIS bhakta is such that HE gave everything even without asking. This gives us the message that real bhkati, faith and surrender can do wonders. Here slokam 8 of the first dasakm of Srimad Narayaneeyam ' Namraanam sannidhalse ............." becomes very relevant. (Bhagavante munni namikkunna elleavarudeyum agrahangal, nammal avashyapettilla engil polum karunamayanaaya bhagavan sadichuchu kodukkunnu. Moksham polum) So on Kucheladinam day, we remember Sreekrishna and his relation with HIS great Bhakta Kuchelan. God has given everything to his friend in lieu of a mouthful of avil and we make offering of avil to Lord Krishna on that day and also recite the dasakam from Narayaneeyam. It is also said reading Kuchelavriththam every day is very auspicious I am not sure how far I am correct, but this is my belief. Guest guest
Dear all, Radhe Krishna! It is said that the Avil offered by Kuchela to Lord Krishna contained lots of small stones and sand, as it was collected from gleanings from the road. They think they are very devout, and they should offer the same type and quality of Avil to the Lord as Kuchela did! What a devotion (artificial!), as if they have seen what Kuchela offered. Guest guest
Jai Sreekrishna Yes you are very much correct. No one can read these lines without tears in the eyes. II think this is a small stanza from Kuchelavriththam vanchipattu. I have heard these lines in my childhood days. I would be very much onbliged if you could kindly let me have the complete song. Thanks in advance Humbly Syamalavradhakrishnan nair <vrkrishnannair wrote: Hare Rama Hare Rama Rama Rama Hare Hare , Hare Krishna Hare Krishna Krishna Krishna Hare Hare Hare! None can read these lines without a joy/(or sadness?) filled eyes! Why because Our Kannan is the Poornaavataram of Lord Vishnu (vaiveshti vyapnoti characharam jagat sa vushnu!) The more you read of lord's love for his satheerthya-Sudhaama/kuchela, the more eager we will be to hear it again and again, because the lord is hero of the story. Take crores and crorwas of births, still it will be less to hear lord's loving stories.Yours very humble in the Lord, vasudevaradhakrishnannairlove not hatred, construction not destruction, nonviolence not violence, truth not untruth, kindness not cruelty towards allcreatures up on this beautiful earth.
