Palani ready for temple festival PALANI, INDIA, December 17, 2007: The administration of the Sri Dhandayuthapaniswamy Temple has made elaborate arrangements for the 30-day Margazhi festival to commence on the hill temple starting Monday. The temple will be open from 4 a.m. on all festival days. To mark the beginning of the festival, a Ganapati homa will be performed at Sri Anandha Vinayagar Sannadhi, situated on the outer prakaram of the temple. Six kaala pujas will be performed to the main deity during festival days. Visarooba dharshan will take place at 4a.m. on January 15, the final day of the festival. Special pujas will be performed to the presiding deity to mark Utharayana punya kaalam and for Thai Pongal festival. The winch operation leading to the temple will start at 3.30 a.m. for the convenience of pilgrims. However, the number of pilgrims visiting the hill temple has been increasing every day. Only two winches

have been used for transporting pilgrims to the hill temple and back. With limited transport facilities, women and the aged have been waiting for a long time to get a seat in the winch. Recently, the rope car operation was been suspended after an accident in which four officials were killed on the spot.www.hindu.com
