Guest guest
Dear Balagopal, Very true. Today's action yield fruits or the results tomorrow. Big or small, what ever it is, we have to do our duty sincerely and Do it. The result will let us know if it is good or bad. We all know, what we are today is due to our 'action' or 'work' or 'karma' of yesterdays. We cannot go back and change it or correct it. Only recourse is to repent and do not repeat the same mistakes. Most times we ourselves are the masters or doers either consciously or unconsciously but seldom realize that we are the problem or problem maker and when pointed out by others we refuse to accept due to 'ego' that controls us. Shake it off and drop it. If unable to do any good deed at least do no harm to anyone manasa, vaacha and karmanaa. Our world, this wonderful earth, itself will be heaven for us. Let us make it a better place to live. Ohm Narayanaya Namah Chandrasekharan balagopal ramakrishnan <rbalpalgvr <guruvayur >Monday, January 21, 2008 8:06:36 AM[Guruvayur/Guruvayoor] I don't know.... Themotive is important. What the sloka infer is to remindthe person that actions are in present tense and itsresults come in from future. Since one does not haveany control on the future one cannot be the 'author'of the result. So it says - don't worry on things onedoesn't have any control upon. Be peaceful. Guest guest
Om Namo Narayanaya Very interesting to read all of your thoughts regarding “Karmanye...akarmani …” As far as I understand many versions for these thoughts and this probably many scholars including our groups already mentioned. The important fact is if we think result of future about present doing, actual force will not be carry which results may occur not expected. This definitely reduces our happiness. Also as we heard “expectation reduces joys”, even though we get expected results it may not satisfy if we are doing with expectation. At the same time to get good results best thing is give importance to the presents rather than future. With prayers SreeAnjuSukumar <sukumarcanada wrote: Hari Om! Please see below the translation of the Geetha Pravachanam by Swamiji from my blog. I translated the word 'ijccha' to be 'wish'. 'Wishful thinking' for the results while 'acting' will not help us with the efficiciency of work. I believe that this is the intent of Swamiji's lecture. Act well; do not wish for resultsThe duty of an individual is to perform his actions well; but without 'wishing' for their results. An action performed with the wish of attaining favorable results will lead ultimately to disappointment.A person can decide how an action should be done; but its result is not within his control. If we expect desirable results over things beyond our control, we will be affected by anxiety and disappointment. When the mind revels in expectations and wishful thinking, the action will not get the attention it requires to do it well and doubts will rise. This leads to incomplete actions and such actions will not bear results. If we cut the ripened jackfruit after smearing our hands with oil, the jackfruit glue will not stick to our hands. Likewise, if we smear the oil of ‘knowledge’ and act in the world, we will not get attached to anything.Reason to do an action must be ‘chitta suddhi’ (cleansing of mind) and not ‘vastu-siddhi’ (attaining material gain). All actions must be done with an attitude of surrender to the Lord and such an action is a ‘karma-yoga’. One should not carry out an action aiming at a particular result nor should one be disinterested in doing any work.Nature and men who live in it are constituted by the three ‘gunas’ (characteristics) – sattvic (noble); rajasic (active); and tamasic (inactive, dull). In an individual, these qualities are present in various proportions at a given moment. When one of these qualities becomes predominant, that will be manifested in the person’s behavior. One should strive to achieve a level of nobility that transcends these three gunas. One can reach that state by realizing the Self where the notions of differences do not exist. At this stage, the person imbibes the essence of ‘karma-yoga’. Chandra Menon <chandrasmenon2002 > wrote: Dear Balagopal, Very true. Today's action yield fruits or the results tomorrow.
