Guest guest
Dear Seemaji and other friends, One need not have doubts about the Mahamanthra. Any name of the Lord is a Mahamanthra. Say "Narasyanaya Namah", "OM Namo Bhagavate Vasudevaya" or "Hare Rama Hare Rama, Rama Rama Hare Hare," etc, or any other Nama of the Lord that you like. . Everything is a Mahamanthra. When Sage Garga was requested by Vasudeva to perform the naming of Lord Krishna, he told, "To this boy who is the incarnation of the Supreme, and has thousand or infinite number of names, how can I, a mere mortal, give him "a" name ? Finally, out of sheer necessity, he named Him "KRISHNA", which is synonymous with "Sat-chit-ananda" or "Existence-Knowledge-Bliss." But Gurus have a right to perform. To the totally ignorant, Gurus have to instruct chanting a particular name so that they do not go out of the way. Take the case of Valmiki who was a totally ignorant person. Sage Narada had to instruct him to keep on repeating "Mara-Mara" so that it automatically becomes Rama-Rama. Dhruva was a child and wanted to do penance. But he did not know where to go and what to do for performing penance. Sage Narada had to instruct him how to go about, and asked him to repeat the "Dwadasaksharee-manthra"( the Manthra which has 12 syllables) -- "OM NA-MO BHA-GA-VA-THE VA-SU-DE-VA-YA" So kindly shed all doubts and call the name of God, the name whichever appeals to you with ardent Bhakti or devotion (concentrated love to the Lord), and He will answer your prayers. Love KVG. Seema Warrier wrote: I have a doubt. Why is Hare Rama Hare Rama Rama Rama Hare Hare, Hare Krishna Hare Krishna Krishna Krishna Hare Hare called as mahamanthra?
