With Prayers MeeraIndu <sowparnika999 wrote: Once Guruvayoor was a subordinate temple of Thrikkanamathilakom temple. Utsavam at Guruvayoor was held after the utsavam of Thrikkanamathilakam temple. It was a routine to send the elephants to Guruvayoor after the festival was over.. One year due to some financial disputes, they refused to send elephants to Guruvayoor ,instead chained them. But when night fell it is said that all the elephants ran from Thrikkanamathilakam to Guruvayoor. Thrikkanamathilakam temple was destroyed by the Dutch. The Aanayottam is conducting as a memory of this historical event. And the most famous Aanayottam is conducted at the Guruvayur temple during the Utsavam. This will start from 'Manjulalthara'. The race ends at the flag post. During the race the elephants have to run 7 times around the temple. The elephant who wins becomes the priviledged one to carry the idol of Sri Guruvayurappa during the procession. Never miss a thing. Make your homepage. Looking for last minute shopping deals?
