Guest guest
Dear friends, Thank you all for your response.I never knew that there are so many temples in kerala though I know about the divyakshethrams. As we are going to combine kerala trip with one of navathiryuppahis, Thitukkurungudi, thiruppullanai etc. I do not know how many I could see as we are old and cannot have an extended trip which may be exhausting. I will try to see what I can.We have a friend in Palghat who is taking us to Guruvayur and another in Trivandrum, whose name is Suresh , (may be related to Vidyasuresh of our group). We are planning to go by 19th of March for week or so. Surely I will pray for you all when in Guruvayur. If any one would like to meet me in Palghat, Guruvayur, cochin and TVM , Please let me know and I will give the date and place we are staying etc. Saroja Ramanujam Dr. Saroja Ramanujam, M.A., Ph.D, Siromani in sanskrit. www.freewebs.com/asrama3 Never miss a thing. Guest guest
Dear Sarojaji,If you intend to visit Trichur (Thrissur) then, the following temples could be seen:Vadakkunnaathan temple (Shiva)Paaramekkavu Bhagavathy TempleThiruvambadi Sree Krishna Temple Make sure you stay at Guruvayur overnight to enjoy the Lord's night sheeveli (elephant procession). While at Guruvayur, you might as well visit the following places:Mammiyoor Shiva TempleSree Parthasarathy TempleThiru Venkataachalapathy TempleNaarayaanaalayam - to worship Poonthanam's Krishna deity & Aanjam Namboodiri's samadhi.Of course, when I take any of my relatives / friends to Guruvayur, I also take them to the Guruvayur Keshavan (elephant) statue and Maraprabhu statue nearby (Sreevalsam Guesthouse compound) and narrate to them the greatness of Keshavan. Also in the next compound is the Samadhi of King Maanavedan (Paanchajanyam Guesthouse compound). All these places are on South naDa.At Guruvayur temple, go for Nirmalya Darshan / Vaaka chaarthu in the early morning and then you can start from Guruvayur towards Ernakulam early. On the way to Ernakulam, you can drop in at the Sree Rama Temple located at Thriprayaar. This is the most important Rama temple in Kerala.Depending on your interests, you may also visit Kodungalloor Bhagavathy Temple, which is also enroute to Ernakulam.A few kilometres from Kodungalloor is the place known as Thri-Kulashekhara-Puram Temple (believed to be the place where Kulashekhara Alwar wrote his Mukunda Mala stotram - there is an ancient & beautiful Krishna temple here - a big temple perhaps once run by Sri Vaishnavas - as also another temple of Lord Srinivasa nearby run by Sri Vaishnavas. It would be a worthwhile visit. I am told that even to this day, people chant the Mukunda Mala stotra at the Krishna temple.). The place is known locally as TKS Puram (short name!).Please read this article in "The Hindu" for more information:"Shrine in memory of Kulasekhara Alwar"http://www.thehindu.com/2004/11/23/stories/2004112307530500.htmAlso, this link:http://www.ibiblio.org/sripedia/ramanuja/archives/dec04/msg00019.html[if you do know more details of Kulashekhara Alwar's exact place of birth etc, please do let me know! I am just typing whatever I have seen and heard.]Once at Ernakulam, you have wonderful temples to visit:Thrikkaakkara Vamana temple (Divya Desam)Poornathrayeesha Temple at Thripunithura (Lord Vishnu)Chottaanikkara Bhagavathy TempleErnakulathappan (Shiva) temple in the heart of ErnakulamHanuman Temple (near Ernakulathappan temple)T.D. Temple (Lord Vishnu again)You may further visit Kottayam (if you haven't already!) to visit 6 Divya Desam temples there. (Thiruvalla, Aranmula, Thrikkodithaanam, Thiruppuliyoor, Thiruvanvandoor, Chengannoor) ORAlong another route, make it a point to visit Ambalappuzha Krishna Temple and savour the beauty of the Lord as well as His exotic paal paayasam! At Trivandrum, obviously the first choice is Padmanabha Swamy temple! You could visit Thiruvattaar Adi Keshava Perumal temple; OR in the other direction, Varkala Janardhana Swamy temple. You could also visit the temples of Thiruvallam (Parashurama) & Thripaadapuram (which correspond to the Head and Feet of the original Anantha Padmanabha deity manifested in front of Vilwamangalam Swami. The present Padmanabha swamy deity is at the place corresponding to the Naabhi of the original deity!! This was told to me by some devotees of Padmanabha Swamy. I am sure you would be knowing all this - still I state this for glorifying the Lord.)I will stop here. If you need any more info, please feel free to write.-sriram=======Saroja Ramanujam <sarojram18 wrote: Dear friends, Thank you all for your response.I never knew that there are so many temples in kerala though I know about the divyakshethrams. As we are going to combine kerala trip with one of navathiryuppahis, Thitukkurungudi, thiruppullanai etc. I do not know how many I could see as we are old and cannot have an extended trip which may be exhausting. Guest guest
HARI AUM Adding to the list will either scare Sarojaji or excite her at the enormousity of the number. The list has covered mostly in the erstwhile kochi-Travancore. There is equally a large number in Malabar, like the famous 'Tali' in Kozhikkode, 'Navamukunda' in Tirunnavaya... As suggested it may not be practical to visit all these places in one go. Focussing Guruvayur one can visit a few number of temples spending enough time in each place. Thanks KrishnaPrasadji for the list. Regards Balagopal NARAYANA NARAYANA NARAYANA --- laksmikantam <no_reply > wrote: > Thanks Krishnaji for this list.
