Guest guest
Dear All, This I read in Malayalam and tried to express it in English the best way I could. You are all welcome to correct any mistakes you see. Idea is from Upanishads. Sri ramakrishan Paramahamsar said: " God is always directing us and telling us what to do. Unfortunately we have learnt to ignore it and then later we approach Him for help. So there is a delay of unlearning to ignore Him. We have to constantly train ourselves to listen to Him and follow His advice. That can be achieved through sincere prayer. Prayer makes His advice so audible that you cannot ignore it anymore. " Regards and prayers Savitri Damam, daanam and daya Once a Deva ( one who has more Satwic qualities, little Rajasic qualities and no Thamasic qualities), a Maanava ( one who has some satwic qualities, more Rajasic qualities and some Thamasic qualities) and a Danava or Asura (with predominantly Thamasic qualities, little Rajasic qualities and no satwic qualities) were walking together. Suddenly a big lightning and a thunder with Da, Da, Da noise came from no where. The three men understood the meaning of the sounds in different ways. Each one of them knew their weakness arising out of their inherent nature, but were never cared to correct it to become a better person. But this sudden thunder gave them some realization. They thought that they have to learn a lesson now because their precious lives were spared and they should show their gratitude to God by becoming better persons. Deva told himself: God is telling me to have more DAma (restraint) in my life. I should not run after material pleasures and power too much. If I have more control, I can achieve lot of things with all the faculties God has given me. I think other wise I am doing most of the things following dharma. Maanava told himself: I am not sharing enough. I have to give more DAanam to the less fortunate because I received so many gifts from God. I should not be at the receiving end always. God is reminding me the importance of Daanam. Daanava told himself: I am very cruel. I have no DAya to other fellow beings. My present nature will lead me to unlimited misery. God is reminding about Daya to save me from falling in to the dark world of sins and suffering. So they tried to practice more Damam, Daanam and Daya. Devas became better and better and reached the stage of beyond gunas and became one with God. Manava became better and better and became one with Maadhavan who is again beyond all gunas.! Daanava became better, became a Maanava first and then became a better Maanava and finally became one with Maadhavan! In all of us all the three Gunas are there. Depending on the percentage of gunas in us we react to situations. We can either ignore the calls of conscience or listen to it and improve ourselves. That means we have a choice to remain as Manava, go down to Daanava stage or go up to Deva stage and then become Maadhava Himself. So Upanishads tells us to practice damam, daanam and daya and become one with Bhagavan who is beyond the Gunaas. Let God bless us to listen to that chaithanyam in us!
