Dear members

Narada and the cobbler

Deavrshi Narada is the greatest devotee of Lord Vishnu. He is also

the most tested by Vishnu. Read on……

There was poor cobbler ,an ardent devotee of Vishnu who lived near a

huge Banyan tree. Once Narada came to him- rather was sent by the

Lord. Before sending Narada to the cobbler, Vishnu had told Narada

that the cobbler would ask a question and what answer that Narada

should give. The cobbler was surprised to see Narada and asked him

whether he had seen the Lord recently. Narada replied that he is just

coming from the Lord. The cobbler then asked Narada or was made to

ask by the Lord " what Vishnu was doing when Narada saw him. " Narada

replied, " Vishnu was threading an elephant through the eye of a

needle. " The cobbler was initially wonder struck but then he

said " only Vishnu could do such a thing. " Narada tried to create a

doubt in the mind of the cobbler about Vishnu's ability to do such a

thing .To this the cobbler replied— " Why not? Nothing is impossible

for Vishnu. This world is full of his miracles and thus went on to

narrate Vishnu's greatness. Then, the cobbler picked up a seed of the

banyan tree and said inside this seed is a banyan tree as big as the

one under which we are standing waiting to come out .If Vishnu can

squeeze a whole tree inside this small seed, certainly He can thread

an elephant though the eye of needle. " Needless to state Narada was

humbled at the faith of the cobbler in Vishnu and at his wisdom.
