Story for self introspection.

Dear all,

There is an old story of a monkey, which gives us a lot of room for

self introspection.

In India, sometimes monkeys cause a lot of damage to vegetable and

fruit crops not only by eating them but by breaking the branches and

uprooting them. Often they fight each other (for fun and sometimes

seriously) and use plants as their weapons. So one day a farmer

decided to use an age old trick. He took a coconut and made a small

hole in the coconut and took out all the water and most of the pulp.

Then he tied that coconut to a sturdy tree so that it could not be

taken away. Then he placed some sweets inside the coconut at the

bottom. He moved away and hid in a nearby place.

Monkeys came and the most hungry and greedy monkey put the hand inside

the coconut to take the food. Alas! He could not take his hand out

with full of his favorite food. The hole is too small to allow a

fistful of food. Poor monkey! He did not know how to just leave that

and walk away. So he was literally trapped with out a formal trap! If

he opened his hand and let the food go, he could have taken his hand

out the same way he put it inside. But his greed did not allow him to

think of a way which he already knew. During his struggle, farmer got

ample time to catch him and we will stop the story here with out

thinking about the poor monkey's fate.

Often we are like that. It is sad that even our " vishesha buddhi " does

not prompt us because we have been ignoring God's directions too many

times. There is a saying in Malayalam: " kaippu kondu irakkaanum vayya,

madhuram kondu thuppaanum vayya " . ( It is too bitter to eat and too

sweet to spit out)

Guruvayurappa, as per YOUR calculation and wish, please give us the

wisdom to let things go and walk away from that. Often we find that

our calculation, desire and greed are like those of the monkeys. With

YOUR blessings and kindness, please uplift us from the state of

Maanavan to Maadhavan and do not let us fall into the state of

Vaanaran!

Hare Krishna !What a super message at the right time probably. When I said right time, i have to say, why it is so.I had been waiting for the results after attending an interview - a NGO job. Obviously the package is too good. ok.. After the interview, i came to know from the reliable sources that I stand in the second position and the person stands in the first place is a Wg. Commander. Obviously, he is more eligible !

However I like a fool, used to seek advises from a famous astrologer as to what I should do. There is a valid reason for that also. I had been offered a post in a senior level by two indian companies also. Without knowing how to take a decision only i had approached the astrologer. You know, the result for NGO job, the decision comes later. At last, i got a regret letter (as there is only one vacancy) saying, they would not hesitate to call me next time. Whatever...... I, over phone informed the astrologer about the mail i received. You know what he said...... I have to wait till 28th of this month as I have a lot of blessings of Guruvayoorappan ! I do know that I have been blessed by Lord so many times and pray that he does continuously throughout my life.

There is a prayer for success in interview " Om Namo Bhagavathe Ramaya Sakalapan Nivaranaya Swaaha " !! which i was asked to pray by my a most important family member by keeping in mind that I get this job. But truthfully, I was praying the mantram of course as he directed, but saying, Hey Lord, If You feel I am eligible for this job and You feel that I can execute the job to Your satisfaction, then only bless me with the job, though i am praying this.

When I read this article of Savitriji, I suddenly remembered this incident and felt, it is a message to me from Lord Himself, through Savithriji. Thank you Savitriji.Pranams !!Jayasree Menon

Dear Jayasreeji,

I have a similar experience in my life too--- When I was working for

Madras Refineries, Chennai, I too applied for a senior job in Abu Dhabi

like my colleagues, was called for interview and selected. It was

rumoured that the appointment order would come any time. That was the

time I thought I should inform my family members, as I would have to

take a decision shortly and cannot keep the family members in the dark

till the last moment.

I broke the news to my family, i.e., my mother who was above 70, my wife

and three school-going boys. My boys were jubilant about it, my

mother extremely unhappy (as I was her only son) and she expected me to

remain with her all the time. My wife was in two minds, as she was

happy that I was getting a better job, better pay, etc., at the same

time, sad because she will have to handle the three vanaras

single-handedly. She finally said, " I have no problem in your taking

the new job, but make sure you take these three vanaras with you!--- she

knew that such a thing could never happen.) Finally we decided to

consult our astrologer at Chennai, to find out whether I should take up

the job or not. I showed my horoscope to him first. He glanced through

it and said, " Everything is all right with this horoscope, but what was

the need of bringing it to me now ? " I was forced to let the cat out

of the bag now, and told him all about the new job, He did some more

calculations and said-- " Has that offer come ? " I said, " no, but it is

coming in a week's time. So I want to know whether I should take it up

or not. " He said vehemently, " Dont worry, that order will not

come. " I asked him how he can be so sure about it. He told me, "

wait till all your other colleauges get their orders, and if you also

get, come back to me. " . All my colleagues got their orders, but to my

surprise, mine did not come.

I waited for another month and went back to him, and asked him to tell

me now, how he was so sure about it. " I thought he had done a big

astrological feat and made a prediction, very difficult for all

others. Then he confided in me-- " It doesnt take an astrologer to

tell you that you wont get the order! You should have known it

yourself! " I wondered what he was aiming at. Finally he said, " See

what is your age-- you are past 47. They dont take people above 45.

And you dont have a change of job indicated in your horoscope. As

simple as that! "

I thought, " all said and done, Lord Guruvayoorappan has decided what is

one's 'Siro-likhitam " what is written on each person's forehead. No one

can change it, I was a fool running around with astrologers for this

simple thing! "

Dear Jayasreeji,

You are blessed to feel the way you are feeling. If we surrender ourselves to HIm, what ever happens will be definitely for our good and slowly His wish becomes our wish. What else we need? My late father used to tell us to pray: Please make your hitham my hitham. Sometimes our wish and God's wish may be different. Then we have to believe that what ever happens is His wish and there is a reason for that. When our wish and His wish are the same, and things happen the way we wish we take them for granted and refuse to see the synergistic effect of the result. But when they are different, and when his wish happens, let Bhagavan bless all of us to like and accept His wish with out complaint.

As you said earlier, for all these to happen, prayer is the only solution.

Dear Gopalakrishnaji,

You shared a very nice experience to reinforce our faith. Can I humbly bring another view point given by Jnaananda Saraswathi ? Jnaananda Saraswathi clearly and convincingly says in his book Vedaantha Vijnaanam about Siro likhitham. He says that we have to suffer or go through all the results of our prabdha karma or siro likhitham. Nothing can change that except sincere prayers because He is capable of erasing or rewriting the sirolikhitham. I am sure you know the story of a man with stomach ache, Vilwamangalam and Kurroramma. For the benefit of all the devotees who do not know this story, I will breifly tell the story.

A man with stomach ache came to Vilwamagalam and asked what he can do to cure his unbearable stomach ache. Vilwamangalam was a pious devotee of Guruvayurappan as well as he was a good astrologer also. He looked at his jatakam and told him that whatever prayers or daanam he does, as per his jatakam, he will have to go through this bad time for another 6 months. He asked the poor man to continue with his prayers because it will give him more strength to go through the bad time.

He was very sad and next day he met Kurooramma who came to Guruvayoor for darshanam. He asked Kurooramma, the great devotee about the same problem. Kurooramma said: Dear Bhaktha, why don' you chant any naamam of Guruvayurappan all the time? Take one easy naamam and chant it all the ttime except when you are sleeping or when you are unable to do chanting becasue of the pain. Even when you have pain, focus on chanting as much as possible. If you are sincere, everyday He will make you chant more and more and in two weeks you will be cured. Let Guruvayurappan bless you to chant and pray all the time!

He started chanting as much as possible and in a week's time he was feeling much better and he devoted all the time chanting Narayana naamam except when he was sleeping. After one more week he was completely cured and he came to Vilwamangalam and told him the whole story. Vilwamagalam was very happy to see him cured, but was upset with his own vision. He asked Guruvayurappan: Krishna, why did you make me a fool of myself? I saw in the jatakam and told the truth and I have learnt from my astrology teacher that Kaaladosham has to be endured through. Then an " ashareeri " (voice) came from the " sreekovil " (sanctum sanctorum): Vilwamangalam, I never said continuous naama japam will not cure his stomach pain. Kurroramma knew this by remembering me even at the time of giving him the advice and you momentarily missed to think of me.You only checked the astrology part and did not think about how my blessings can work wonders.

Dear Savitriji, Jayasreeji and other dewvotees of the group,

Look at this prayer which Bhattatiri did on the third day of his

starting the work og composing Narayaneeyam:

"Kripa they Jatha chet kim-iva na hi labhyam thanu-bhruthaam,

Madeeya-klesoukha-prasamana-dasaa nama kiyathee!

Na ke ke lokesmin anisam ayi sokabhirahithah

Bhavat-bhakthah mukthah sukha-gatim asakthah vidadhatey!

(Narayaneeyam-- 3.3.)

Commentary

“Lord! For any living being, irrespective of gender, caste, creed or

religion, man, bird or beast, there is nothing that cannot be achieved,

if only Your divine grace is bestowed ! Even animals and birds have

attained salvation on account of Your grace. Leave alone the first

three Purusharthas, they will be recipients of even the fourth one,

Sayujya-mukti, the state of salvation that merges them with You, the

Infinite, with considerable ease! This being so, eradication of the

woes afflicting me is but a trivial task for You. Is it difficult for

a blazing fire to burn down a small piece of wood? A stroke of Your

divine grace, the bestower of that level of emancipation called

Sayujya-mukti, can destroy all my woes, physical and mental in no time,

and make me the happiest of persons. Devotees like me, who have been

recipients of Your divine grace, are numerous indeed! Singing Your

glory, meditating on Your charming form, recounting Your sportive

exploits and chanting Your divine names, they get submerged in the

nectar of Your love. Revelling in You, and having their woes, mental

and physical, getting eradicated, they get rid of all their

attachments, the sense of ‘I’ and ‘mine’, and become Jivan-muktas

(liberated souls), finally to become one with You! How many of such

devotees, although detached from material life, travel on their own

free will through the length and breadth of this universe, keeping in

mind only the well-being of all, and doing immense good to the people!

The only prayer I have, my Lord, is : ‘bless me with such divine grace

as to attain their status!’”

Whenever anyone is in trouble, let us all join together and recite this

stanza of Narayaneeyam.

suffer or go through all the results of our prabdha karma or siro

likhitham. Nothing can change that except sincere prayers

because He is capable of erasing or rewriting the sirolikhitham. I am

sure you know the story of a man with stomach ache, Vilwamangalam and

Kurroramma. For the benefit of all the devotees who do not know this

story, I will breifly tell the story.

A man with stomach ache came to Vilwamagalam and asked what he

can do to cure his unbearable stomach ache. Vilwamangalam was a pious

devotee of Guruvayurappan as well as he was a good astrologer also. He

looked at his jatakam and told him that whatever prayers or daanam he

does, as per his jatakam, he will have to go through this bad time for

another 6 months. He asked the poor man to continue with his prayers

because it will give him more strength to go through the bad time.

He was very sad and next day he met Kurooramma who came to

Guruvayoor for darshanam. He asked Kurooramma, the great devotee about

the same problem. Kurooramma said: Dear Bhaktha, why don' you chant any

naamam of Guruvayurappan all the time? Take one easy naamam and chant

it all the ttime except when you are sleeping or when you are unable to

do chanting becasue of the pain. Even when you have pain, focus on

chanting as much as possible. If you are sincere, everyday He will make

you chant more and more and in two weeks you will be cured. Let

Guruvayurappan bless you to chant and pray all the time!

He started chanting as much as possible and in a week's time he

was feeling much better and he devoted all the time chanting Narayana

naamam except when he was sleeping. After one more week he was

completely cured and he came to Vilwamangalam and told him the whole

story. Vilwamagalam was very happy to see him cured, but was upset with

his own vision. He asked Guruvayurappan: Krishna, why did you make me a

fool of myself? I saw in the jatakam and told the truth and I have

learnt from my astrology teacher that Kaaladosham has to be endured

through. Then an "ashareeri" (voice) came from the "sreekovil" (sanctum

sanctorum): Vilwamangalam, I never said continuous naama japam will not

cure his stomach pain. Kurroramma knew this by remembering me even at

the time of giving him the advice and you momentarily missed to think

of me.You only checked the astrology part and did not think about how

my blessings can work wonders.

I broke the news to my family, i.e., my mother who was above 70, my

wife

and three school-going boys.

She finally said, "I have no problem in your taking

the new job, but make sure you take these three vanaras with you!---

she

knew that such a thing could never happen.) Finally we decided to

consult our astrologer at Chennai, to find out whether I should take up

the job or not. I showed my horoscope to him first. He glanced through

it and said, "Everything is all right with this horoscope, but what was

the need of bringing it to me now ?" I was forced to let the cat out

of the bag now, and told him all about the new job, He did some more

calculations and said-- " Has that offer come ?" I said, "no, but it is

coming in a week's time. So I want to know whether I should take it up

or not." He said vehemently, " Dont worry, that order will not

come." I asked him how he can be so sure about it. He told me, "

wait till all your other colleauges get their orders, and if you also

get, come back to me.". All my colleagues got their orders, but to my

surprise, mine did not come.

I waited for another month and went back to him, and asked him to tell

me now, how he was so sure about it." I thought he had done a big

astrological feat and made a prediction, very difficult for all

others. Then he confided in me-- " It doesnt take an astrologer to

tell you that you wont get the order! You should have known it

yourself!" I wondered what he was aiming at. Finally he said, " See

what is your age-- you are past 47. They dont take people above 45.

And you dont have a change of job indicated in your horoscope. As

simple as that!"

I thought, "all said and done, Lord Guruvayoorappan has decided what is

one's 'Siro-likhitam" what is written on each person's forehead. No one

can change it, I was a fool running around with astrologers for this

simple thing!"

Dear Jayasreeji,

Radhe Krishna!

It is said that in this sloka "Janamadyasya yatah", which is also the

second Sutra in the "Brahma-sutram", the entire Brahma-sutram and

Bhagavatam are capsuled. Hence, chanting this sloka even once per day

is equivalent to chanting of the whole Bhagavatam."

informed the astrologer about the mail i received. You know what he

said...... I have to wait till 28th of this month

as I have a lot of blessings of Guruvayoorappan ! I do know that I

have been blessed by Lord so many times and pray that he does

continuously throughout my life.

There is a prayer for success in interview " Om Namo Bhagavathe Ramaya

Sakalapan Nivaranaya Swaaha" !! which i was asked to pray by my a most

important family member by keeping in mind that I get this job. But

truthfully, I was praying the mantram of course as he directed, but

saying, Hey Lord, If You feel I am eligible for this job and You feel

that I can execute the job to Your satisfaction, then only bless me

with the job, though i am praying this.

When I read this article of Savitriji, I suddenly remembered this

incident and felt, it is a message to me from Lord Himself, through

Savithriji. Thank you Savitriji.

It is sad that even our "vishesha buddhi" does

not prompt us because we have been ignoring God's directions too many

times. There is a saying in Malayalam: "kaippu kondu irakkaanum vayya,

madhuram kondu thuppaanum vayya".

Vaanaran!

Dear Savitriji,

Radhe Krishna!

I saw it in the Krishna Leela serial. It was excellent presentation.

Now both Asianet and Surya are competing with each other by putting up

the serials at the same time. Why this "matsara-buddhi" or

"markata-buddhi" even in matters pertaining to God ?

Oly Guruvayoorappan should change them in favour of His Bhaktas like us.

Regards

KVG.

Dear Gopalakrishnaji,

You shared a very nice experience to reinforce our faith. Can I

humbly bring another view point given by Jnaananda Saraswathi ?

Jnaananda Saraswathi clearly and convincingly says in his book

Vedaantha Vijnaanam about Siro likhitham. He says that we have to

suffer or go through all the results of our prabdha karma or siro

I broke the news to my family, i.e., my mother who was above 70, my

wife

and three school-going boys.

Dear GopalakrishnajiHare Krishna !!Very true. Thanks for reminding me of the Brahma Suthram. The reason for my attending to the Param Sathyam was relevant in my earlier mail and hence it made me to focus on the subject " Sathyam " . Once again thank you very much.

Dear Jayasreeji,

Radhe Krishna!

It is said that in this sloka " Janamadyasya yatah " , which is also the

second Sutra in the " Brahma-sutram " , the entire Brahma-sutram and

Bhagavatam are capsuled. Hence, chanting this sloka even once per day

is equivalent to chanting of the whole Bhagavatam. "

You are blessed to feel the way you are feeling. If we

surrender ourselves to HIm, what ever happens will be definitely for

our good and slowly His wish becomes our wish. What else we need? My

late father used to tell us to pray: Please make your hitham my hitham.

Sometimes our wish and God's wish may be different. Then we have to

believe that what ever happens is His wish and there is a reason for

that. When our wish and His wish are the same, and things happen the

way we wish we take them for granted and refuse to see the synergistic

effect of the result. But when they are different, and when his wish

happens, let Bhagavan bless all of us to like and accept His wish with

out complaint.

As you said earlier, for all these to happen, prayer is the

only solution.

Jai Sreekrishna Dear Goplakrishnanji, Savithriji and Jayasreeji I feel very much blessed to be a part of this group where devotees like you are sharing such information. This is the need of the hour . The personal experiences of Gopalakrishnanji and Jayasreeji are good examples which proves that whatever is happening is HIS wish and we have just to accept the same. But sometimes it becomes difficult for us to take it so easily. As Savithriji said at such times only sincere prayers comes to our rescue. I feel very much relieved once I kneel down before HIM and pray as I get the feeling that someone is there to take care anywhere, anytime Humbly Syamala "K.V Gopalakrishna"
