Dear all,

Continuation of 24 names:

" When you are with your spouse, think of Sridhara " is the next one.

The literal meaning of Sridhara means one who is holding or possessing Lakshmi. " Sri " is Lakshmi ( good fortune, wealth) and " Dhara " means holding or possessing or bearing). Lakshmi is like an epithet of Vishnu, a word used to characterize Vishnu.

Why it is auspicious to think of Vishnu as Sreedhara in our relationship with our spouse? They are one of the divine eternal couples, other being Siva and Parvathy. Vishnu and His Sakthi are associated with one another and manifests as Lakhmi- Narayana or Sridhara. Lakshmi never leaves Vishnu's bosom. Their relationship is very pure and ideal.

Let us look at Bhagavan's qualities first. Bhagavan is the one with 6 " bhagaas " or great glories or opulence.

Aiswaryasya samagrasya (infinite prosperity, integrity)

Veeryasya yashas-shriya ( vigour, glory-splendour)

Jnana vairagyayoschaiva ( knowledge, renunciation or dispassion)

Shannaam iti bhaga .( six opulence)

Now let us take Lakshmi devi and her qualities: Lakshmi is symbolic of all the material wealth that is essential to lead a righteous life. Personification of the eight aspects of wealth are Ashtalakshmis.

" Adi Lakshmi (First Lakshmi) symbolizes our cultural heritage and traditions. Dhanya (grains) Lakshmi is a symbol the plant life needed for sustenance. Dhairya(courage) Lakshmi symbolizes courage required to carry out any action. Gaja (elephant) Lakshmi is symbolic of animal life. Santana (progeny) Lakshmi symbolizes progeny or the future. Vijaya(victory) Lakshmi is symbolic of success and Vidya (education) Lakshmi is the symbol of education. Dhana (money) Lakshmi is a symbol of money. "

(based on the article from Lok-Vani)

When these Divine prosperity is used used for the good of the world, Lakshmi stays with them because Bhagavan is there only where there is Dharma and She He will never leave Him.

So in our relationship with our spouse we think of Sridhara and pray Him to give us a relationship as pure, divine and useful to the world as theirs.

During marriage, bride receives lot of blessings and the essence of these blessings is somewhat like this " like Lakshmi to Vishnu, Parvathy to Shankara, Arundhathi to sage Vasishta, let you be a good and virtuous wife to your husband, be mother of noble progeny, retain eternal wife-hood, be righteous, be full of grace and patience, be kind and forgiving, bring happiness to your husband, relatives and all around you and live long well " . ( The divine realtionship reminds every woman to be the light of the household, emanating rays of love and faith in all directions)

Bhagavan returns Lakshmi's universal love by carrying her in His bosom and He is known as SRIDHARA. ( Also reminds men to take care of their wives with respect and consideration)

Let Lord Sridhara bless us with pure unconditional love towards Him, bless us with all His opulences and shower all aspects of the prosperity of Lakshmi on us to lead a righteous life!

Regards and prayers

Savitri
