Guest guest
Dear All, " When you are sad, think of Him as Madhusoodana " Now comes our Madhusoodana who is capable of " killing " all our sorrows. I am delighted to say more about Him. The literal meaning of Madhusoodana is " Slayer of the demon Madhu " . After killing Madhusoodana, he bestowed happiness on devotees and all good people. There is some inner meaning to this. It is very easy for us to be arrogant with out even realizing that we are arrogant. Madhusoodana is the one who can help us destroy the demon with in us namely arrogance. This naamam Madhusoodana eliminates ego from our mind and act as a powerful cleaner of our mind. Swami Chinmayaananda indicates that madhu is a term used in vedaanta to refer to the fruits of actions. Since Bhagavaan destroys the effects of the fruits of actions of those who meditate on Him, He is Madhusoodana. Now we will try to connect this name to our theme using a verse from Bhagavad Gita, Second chapter, beginning sloka. sanjaya uvaca: tam tatha kripayavistam asru-purnakuleksanam visidantam idam vakyam uvaca madhusudanah Meaning of this sloka is " Sanjaya tells [Dhritharaashtra]: To Arjuna who out of mercy has a perturbed mind and whose eyes are brimming with tears, Madhusoodana spoke these sentences " . Lord killed two demons, Madhu and Kaitabha. The symbolism of calling the Lord with the name Madhusoodana can be interpreted in two ways: We can say that demons Madhu and Kaitabha represents kaamam and Krodham in us. (desire and anger). It can be taken as Rajoguna ( mental state of anger, pride and desire) and Thamoguna (mental state of ignorance, laziness and all other negative qualities) also. So Madhusoodana eradicates all these negative qualities which are the root causes of our sorrow from our mind. So chanting the name of Vishnu as Madhusoodana is appropriate when you are sad and Lord removes not only the sorrow, but also the root causes of our sorrow. He fills our mind with satwa gunam and all positive qualities and recharge us with all the energy to go forward, just like He did with Arjuna. Sad and thoroughly confused Arjuna stood in front of Madusoodana and His powerful words jolted him like a thunderbolt and he emerged with all enthusiasm, spirit and optimism. Knowing the potential of the name Madhussoodana to wipe out sadness, ignorance and fear, Vedavyaasa Maharshi used this name in the above verse. So any time we feel sad, helpless and unable to take a decision, It is very appropriate to remember Madhussoodana. Let Lord Madhusoodana guide us through all the dilemmas of life and bless us to take right decisions at the right time and May he destroy the root causes of all our sorrows. Regards and prayers savitri P.S. Please feel free to correct any mistakes or misunderstanding of mine.
