Namasthe- Raghunandan

" When you are climbing mountains or hard to reach places think of Him as Raghunandanan "

Literal meaning of Raghunandan is the " son born in Raghu's dynasty " . Actually Rama is the scion of Raghuvamsa and hence the name Raghunanadan.

While connecting our theme to remembering Raghunandan, we have to think of the inner meaning of this saying " parvathae Raghunandanam " .

" Parvathae " literally means in the mountains or while climbing mountains, but it actually indicates difficult times in our life. Also indirectly means: when we are encountering with diffcult problems, when furstrated and dejected, think Raghunandana who had to go through so many unexpected, seemingly undeserrving miseries. So this words tells us to look at Lord's life and how He handled it with out any complaint and followed the path of Dharma. Towering personality of Raghunnandan or Rama is closley woven with the other characters like Sita, Lakshmana, and Bharatha and Hanuman.

Raghuinandan's story illustrates that undue attachment to anything other than Easwaran will bring miseries. He acted out to show us how Ravana's intense kaamam destroyed him and Sita's desire to get the gloden deer at any cost resulted in her unending miseries and even Rama's own undue attachemnt to Dharmam gave misery to Himself and others especially Sita . So Ramayana advises us not to have Athyaasakthi ( too much attachment) towards anything even to Dharma. (Even too much amruth or nectar becomes poison- adhikamaayaal amruthum visham)

Let us look at a few instances where Raghunanadan's name was invoked and the problem was immediately solved. Hanuman was ready to go in search of Sita. From Jatayu he knew that Ravana has abducted Sita and he was ready to go to Lanka. But he had to corss the ocean to get there. He thought for a while and sincerely prayed and called " Hae! Raghunandana! please come and dwell in my heart and then no job is impossible for me " . That moment he got enormous strength and he jumped across the ocean to reach Lanka with out any difficulties.

( Think of the fact that Rama himself had to build a bridge to cross the ocean. It says that Rama was not aware of the greatness of His Naamam as much as Hanumanji knew. So Hanumanji says that the greatness of Naamam is greater than the Naami- or one who is known by that name. Hanumanji says naamam lives for ever, but the Naami finishes his goal of incarnation and goes back to swadhaamam or vaikundham- Hanumanji has an explanation for everything when it is about Raama naamam. May be Aanjaneyaswami is here prompting me to write this because He is there wherever Rama's name or story is mentioned . Sorry for the digression).

Also Lakshamana could not kill Indrajit (Ravana's mighty son) by using all his tactics, and when he called Raghunandana as " pourushe chaaprathidwantha:( with out a second in pourusham or manliness) the arrow flew and carried off the head of Indrajit. Such is the power of Ragunandan's name.

I will conclude this theme with the Ekasloki Raamaayanam ( the whole Ramayanam in one slokam. We can chant this when we are pressed for time to recite the 20 slokaas in Naarayaneeyam or Samkshiptha Raamaayanam from Vaalmiki Raamaayanam or Naama Raamaayanam).

Aadou Raama thapo vanaadi gamanam, hathwa mrugam kaanchanam,Vaidehi haranam, jataayu maranam, Sugreeva sambhaashanam,Baali nigrahanam, samudra tharanam, Lanka pureem daahanam,Paschaad Raavana Kumbhakarna nidhanam, aethad ithi Raamaayanam

Rama went to the forest, killed the golden deer, Seetha was abducted, Jatayu was killed, talked with Sugreeva, Bali was killed, crossed the ocean, Lanka was burnt,and later Ravana and Kumbha karna were killed This is the brief story of Ramayanam.
